what's wrong......yellow rotors rock...lol

frost 06-20-2009 08:24 PM

Aside from the obvious painting of the rotors, who would think it's a good idea to mix yellow and silver?

ChrisSlicks 06-20-2009 08:25 PM

Eh, not that silly really (aside from the color). It's not unusual to paint or coat the rotor hat (the center) to prevent it from rusting. Painting the swept part of the rotor was simply a waste of paint, the pads will remove the paint in a few miles of driving. The brakes will work fine.

i was planing on painting the center cap with some flat black paint to stop the rusting...looks so ugly to see every winter...lol

then i saw this thread and didnt want to mention it...lol

Really?! Sure seems like the first few miles would be dangerous, and as that paint melted at high temps it would cause problems. I have never seen this done before. :ugh2:

Seems like a good way to get gooey yellow crap all over the place as it melts off, at the very least.

nogoodname 06-20-2009 10:14 PM

the calipers would be painted melted....nice...lol

This was one of the comments from Jalopnik.

You can paint the rotors...HOWEVER...you do it where the brake pads dont touch the rotor..say the center hub part and the outer end of the rotor where the cooling fins are. Believe me...I do custom calipers and brakes locally. Nice idea...but he will have braking issues until that is cooked off.

sanding it down is a no no...lol......it's a live and learn thing now

The rotors I used to purchase for my boxster always showed up like this... threw me initially too... also they tended to cook and smoke at first track session... can be unnerving, but as previously mentioned, no big deal

Click the link and look at the dude's rims. They block out seeing the rotor completely.
