Apparently tethering was included in the update/ new phone, but "hidden." My modem took a dump last night, so I'm glad someone told me about this day before yesterday.
To unlock tethering, visit this site via the phone: help.BenM.at (the site doesn't show the URL-- you'll need to type it as the actual URL appears, not this link) At the middle of that page, click "Mobile Config: Install" & then pick your country. From there, hit install, let it run, & then go to settings/ general/ network/ internet tethering & then select either USB or bluetooth. I'm really impressed with the speed. Even when watching videos, it's barely slower than wifi. |
You can unlock MMS also but it seems AT&T might remotely shut it off and you have to activate it again, which is why most are not bothering or it has not gotten much news.

How To Easily Enable Tethering and MMS on iPhone 3.0
Not sure how well this works, I do not have an iPhone anymore and forgot to test this on a co-workers phone. |
I still have the 1st generation phone, everything seams to work with my ipod interface in the 370z. Accessing songs, playlist etc. and charging. I heard that some people were having problems charging there phone with the 3G, 3G-S. Can anyone confirm that charging the 3G-S still works with 370z interface. ??

As for the MMS bs, the Iphone has a pretty swanky email interface and by emailing a picture to someones txt or mms address I dont even miss MMS that much. |

MMS can be done using that trick, I've done it but it removes visual voicemail, you have to edit the system to not know you have an iphone, which works great if you know someone who works at ATT.
other than that, just wait a month. |
Visual voicemail still works for me.
shrug |
When my visual voicemail starts working my mms stops, and visa versa

Bumping this thread.
Post up some of your favorite apps. I am interested if anybody is using Sirius/XM now. |
The 3GS is so much better imo.
|
Got the 3GS yesterday and it kicks ***! The reception doesn't seem to be as good as Verizon though. The apps are amazing! I downloaded a few cool ones already. They have a fire police scanner app so you can listen to police/fire all over the country.

I just picked up one a week ago and after 2 days I was hooked especially since this is my first iphone I see why Apple ones 64% of the smartphone sales now like they do with the digital music space. Have the Navigon app which is great.
Biggest concern is battery life. To maintain battery life you have to go in and change different settings wish there was a profile style mode if your using it as just a phone for a few hours to when you get in your car and going ipod to when you are going internet and apps. I have heard that the 3gs seems to have somewhat a decreased life compared to the 3g and 1st gen. |
I use my 3gs more than my computer. Hell, have my posts on here are from my iphone.
|
yeah the 3gs is really sumthing.

I got a new app that turns your phone into about 20 different flashlights. Pretty neat. |
Who here has a jailbroken iPhone? I'm thinking about jailbreaking mine and want to hear pros/cons.
|
Pro:
~Customize it to look however you want ~Many free apps (i.e. ones you may pay for in the App Store) ~Many apps that are not Apple "approved" Cons: ~You cannot upgrade your firmware when news one are out instantly. Must wait for those who do the jailbreaking software to update their work. ~Can be unstable, but this is very very minor. ~If you customize to much things might slow a little. Apple will never know if you jailbreak an iPhone, as long as you reset it to factory before you go in for any repair work. |
So when the next firmware comes out you'll need to "re-jailbreak" correct?
|
The only thing I want is the ability to change the look and run multiple apps.
|
I have not done jailbreaking in awhile, most people I did it for either do not care anymore or have moved onto other phones. When I did you basically wiped the phone and updated the firmware and re-jailbroke the phone, but I feel like I have read that it might be easier now than that.
