:wtf2:

Get both, make them fight to death, keep the winner.

Crash 05-31-2009 04:14 PM

Yorkies are better looking IMO... Most chihuahua's look like rats to me. Besides, the chihuahua's bark like poodles... None stop and high pitched.

I say go with the Yorkie.

EDIT::

LOL @ FROST! Good idea.

And yes, the Yorkie is WAY cute. :)

CBRich 05-31-2009 04:16 PM

From what I have read the teacups, chihuahuas, and other small breeds do have a lot of genetic problems due to inbreeding in an attempt to keep the size down. Just something to be aware of. Me and my wife are on the other end of the scale. The largest (mass) breed as recognized by AKC. This is him at four months, he's now 130 pounds.

Sunsational04 05-31-2009 04:16 PM

yea scratch the chihuahua. my mom just said hell no they are nasty dogs.

Sunsational04 05-31-2009 04:17 PM

CBRich.. wow your dog is HUGE! lol but he's adorable. I need a small dog only. and yes you are completely right about the inbreeding ive been doing a lot of research on it and thats a big thing they say

ChrisSlicks 05-31-2009 04:22 PM

The miniature dogs are mean, they have a complex from being beaten up by cats.

You can get a small dog (20 lbs or so) but stay away from the teeny tiny ones.

Crash 05-31-2009 04:32 PM

Well, my spaniel was about 25 Lbs for the most part and whooped other dogs butts of all sizes... So we had to keep her away from most dogs... If you get a tiny dog, be prepared to shell out a lot of dough and time for medical stuff. My dog racked up a LOT of bills because she's a pure bread. 15 years in and she's still fighting the good fight. But it's been hell for her at some points.

frost 05-31-2009 04:33 PM

I wouldn't get a pure bread again. It's not only bad for them, it's bad for you.

Sunsational04 05-31-2009 05:25 PM

why is it bad?

carguyg35 05-31-2009 05:29 PM

Get the Yorkie. They are a great dog. A little pricey but I know plenty of people who own them and are very happy.

CBRich that dude is going to be huuuuuuge, just research the breeder and see about referrals. Don't buy from a puppy mill. Good luck with the little guy. Here is my new boy, i'm co-owner, the breeder is going to show this one, Brass. Man i would be afraid i would step on something that small.

Purebred's have a weak gene pool (from repetitive in-breading) which means they typically have more health problems than a mutt. Even buying from a trusted breeder you still run the known risk of issues.

BanningZ 05-31-2009 06:55 PM

No purebreeds. Makes them stupid, unstable and many times physically impared (i.e.: Blind, hard of hearing)

Get a nice shelter mutt. :) Be the best choice you ever made. Talk about loyal and smart.

m4a1mustang 05-31-2009 07:15 PM

Shelter dog FTW. There are plenty out there that need homes. Esp in this economy... people can't afford to keep their pets.

Repetitive in breading occurs in the "puppy mills". People who own, or run them need to be placed in prison, for animal cruelty!
We have 3 pure bread, Miniature Pinscher's, no health issues!

arcticreaver 05-31-2009 07:35 PM

shitzu are good dogs and they don't get too big. friendly as well.

Sunsational04 05-31-2009 11:22 PM

cajunz 06-03-2009 09:01 PM

CrownR426 06-03-2009 11:54 PM

LOL! :bowrofl:
AK's repsonse was priceless...

Sunsational04 06-04-2009 07:05 AM

soo i DID drive the 7.. no 14 hours to go see the dog! (7 up and 7 back) non stop and i drove the whole way. no tickets no accidents NADA. and it poured. BUT.. i really liked the dog he was so cute but he was hyper at times and he nibbled. so i got nervous bc his sister was very calm and cuddled right up. but him he was cuddly then hyper so then i thought nope he's not the dog for me but everyone has been telling me that they are puppies so thats expected and that i just have to train him NOT to do that. and give him something to chew on since he's teething. Im going to look at 2 more on Saturday then i will make my decision :)

StLRedrider 06-04-2009 08:28 AM

Wow, that was a long drive, keep looking you'll find the right one for you. Good luck!

semtex 06-04-2009 08:48 AM

One word of warning re. calm dogs. My wife and I chose a puppy once because it was nice and calm. Didn't bark at all when all the other ones were barking like crazy, just wanted to cuddle, etc. When we got her home, she was still all quiet, just wanted to chill and cuddle up, etc. Well, we subsequently found out that she was calm only because she had a respiratory infection! Bam! $1500 vet bill right out of the gate to treat the infection! And sure enough, after she recovered from the infection, she became a hyper holy terror, running around non-stop like she was possessed, pausing every 30 seconds to tinkle on the carpet. She was so bad we had to ship her off to a boarding school for a whole month! That was another $1000. Oh and this dog was/is a purebreed, btw (Cocker Spaniel). So I definitely agree with the prior warnings about purebreeds.

Our second dog is a cocker/poodle mix (known as a Cockapoo). Best dog ever. Calm, smart, easily trained without having to be shipped off to an obedience school. And the best part? She was housebroken from day 1! We never had to train her to not go in the house. Somehow, she just knew. I think her mother must've taught her before she was weened and taken away.

Here's what a Cockapoo looks like:

Here are my two dogs together. The Cocker's name is Katie (on the right), and the Cockapoo's name is Morgan (on the left). And no, we didn't deliberately name our dogs after a porn actress. It just kinda worked out that way. :(

CBRich 06-04-2009 09:21 AM

For some reason these dogs look like Muppets. Cute. As far as all that driving I'm sure it will be worth it. You're gonna have this dog for a long time and you should definitely take your time and get the one you want.

ssqpolo 06-07-2009 12:50 AM

i dont know if u picked one up already. but i just got a shorky...shitzu and yorkie mix. super cute/playful/calm/pretty smart...i love it. ill post pics in the pets post!

Get the one from PA and in the honor of the puppy, I will take the Z!
