wtf is wrong with craigslist?

I do house cleaning every six months. When I find things that are too nice to donate, I usually sell it for a fair value on craigslist. While you get your usual spam from the a$$holes in Nigeria or other spams, I have been dealing with plain idiots/creepy people/jerks. Instead of getting people that are truly interested in the item, I get the following

#1 The person who asks 20 emails, then stops responding
#2 The person who asks questions, then stops responding once they get your phone #
#3 The person that wants to talk to you on the phone and ask 20 questions on a product that is worth <$20.

I mean wtf, are these people just into wasting time or is there some sort of code for sex that they are waiting for?

I ended up throwing out or donated most of the products that I intend to sell for $20!

But in reality CL is a good place to sell items, I have sold a bunch of stuff on there including my old car.

Most people who do ask a lot of questions though are only trying to low ball on your price and/or don't have the money to began with but hope that they can in someway get it for free or something. Thats what the free section of CL is for!!

craigslist is perfect for buying and selling bikes. i sold and bought my bikes from craigslist.

I think you are right. The more questions they ask, the less likely they will buy. I swear some do it to either stalk females or pray for some m/m encounter and are hoping for the keyword to get it on.

I usually just put the prices $10 below average and put the word firm on it. I am not dealing with idiots who tries to lowball me on the spot.

I once had a guy asked me why my wheels have to be so big. If they were smaller, he would buy it. I mean if it doesnt fit, why waste people's time?

LOL those are the people that get no action. :rofl2:

But yeah some of the questions are really dumb. Like if someone texts you and says whats the your best price, or how low are you willing to go, that usually means they don't have anywhere close to your asking price.

Then when you tell them im pretty firm on my price, they start bitching about how your item isn't all that great and etc, then I just think to myself if it wasn't interest in the product im selling than what prompted you to call or text me in the first place.

I love CL though, really a good place to sell items, its just the people who buy stuff from you really don't know how to make a smooth transaction, and most of the times are what I like to call "broke shoppers" looking for a free handout.

Craigslist freaks me out.

Baconboy 03-02-2012 02:44 PM

Maybe you need to move to a nicer area so you aren't surrounded by jack holes? I generally don't have those problems on Boston's cl.

TerribleONE 03-02-2012 02:45 PM

I disagree with the area making a difference.. I couldnt agree more with things in socal even in a nice area... I prefer ebay IMO..

Yep. I just don't like meeting random people to sell/buy something. I'd rather ship but sometimes I guess it makes sense. You just have to be extra careful with who you are dealing with. Thankfully I can carry in VA.

TerribleONE 03-02-2012 02:51 PM

+1 iv heard of tons of people being robbed when going to meet up with the buyer here in so cal, and have heard even worse stories of people having the buyer pick things up from their house.. I wonder if you can find customer short tails on craigslist though.. :stirthepot:

 im pretty sure illinois is the you can't do anything state.

cossie1600 03-02-2012 03:13 PM

Ebay is shot now too, too much spam and not enough buyers. Also cl is great for big items that u cant ship. I am not sure if area matters when u are buying used items.

here is another example. I listed a generator labeled 1400 Watts. Two different guys asked me for pics and told me they need a bigger one or they want to use it to power a restaurant

eBay is almost the same crap, then you have to deal with Paypal. :shakes head:

Dark Sarcasm 03-02-2012 09:22 PM

i tried to get rid of a 32" TV on Craigslist. I wanted a case of beer in exchange for a 32" TV with remote AND I would also throw in a free DVD player w/ remote. For a case of beer!!!! I got so many questions about the DVD player -

Does it work?
Do you have the owners manual?
What brand?

I ended up giving the TV and DVD player to a guy that bought my refrigerator, i just wanted the thing out of my garage.

I did sell a Jeep on Craigslist and that was a pleasant experience. Except for all the trade offers for motorcycles.

cossie1600 03-02-2012 10:54 PM

One thing I have noticed is that I am better off asking for $5 or $10 instead of just free, it's like people cant believe it

ClrdFrTakeOff 03-06-2012 08:22 PM

When I sold my bike, I had a guy offer me a pickup truck and a shotgun for it. It was like a redneck starter kit lol

frost 03-06-2012 08:50 PM

Something I posted in a previous thread:

I put a bunch of stuff on Craig's list that I don't necessarily want to move with, ladders, jack, jack-stands, gym equipment, tools, etc. All of it was barely used (which is why I was selling obviously). What's important here is that all of my ads have a disclaimer like this:

Quote:

"My prices are less than half what you pay new, and all items are only lightly used and well taken care of, so please don't call me trying to haggle. I will donate this stuff to charity before I let it go for any less than what I advertised"

Despite this, EIGHT FUCKIN PEOPLE CONTACT ME TODAY TRYING TO TALK ME INTO SELLING FOR LESS. I have like, a $300 mower, only used it a few months for a small patch of Phoenix grass in the front yard, letting it go for $100, and yet, someone still wants to try talking me down to $50.

Super fuckin irritating.
