While I wait for my house to be rewired this is where all my gear gets mounted, currently it is all tucked away until I can use it.

Thanks! Once I've got updated periphials, I'm going to keep my eye out for a reasonably priced blu-ray burner, a $20 DVD burner is a good start and keeps the budget nice and low but I wouldn't mind catching up with the times. The 8GB Patriot RAM kits I would assume can only go down in price so I'll probably double the RAM at some point too. Crap, if I keep this line of thought going, I'll end up with another Radeon 6XXX and run a Crossfire setup, maybe a SSD for booting windows, new speakers, oh, how good are sound cards these days? Would I be better off saving the money for better digital speakers (mine are old school ;) and just run the audio through the mobo's digital out? I noticed Maximum PC's Dream Machine was running on-board audio this year.

Car guys tend to have a bit of computer geek in them, so I figured a thread to nerd out in would be fun. I don't have new pics (still have to tidy up the case) but here is where my rig is at now:

- Core i7-2600K @ 4.5GHz, Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU cooler with 120mm push/pull fan setup -- Idles at 25*C, sees 55-57*C at full load
- ASUS P8Z68-V/Gen3 mobo
- 16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3-1600 (4x4gb)
- 2X 2GB Sapphire 6950 Dirt3 Edition cards in CrossFireX (currently running with the stock shaders and stock clocks)
- OCZ Vertex III 60GB SSD (for OS)
- OCZ Vertex II SSD (for applications)
- WD Caviar Black 1.5TB & 500GB HDDs for storage
- ASUS XONAR-DG sound card
- Corsair TX750 PSU
- Cooler Master CM690II case
Monitors: 3x Acer H233H 23"

Post up your rigs with pics if possible (I'll have some up of mine soon) and talk shop!

Very nice! I have a pretty weak/standard layman's setup that covers internet usage and WoW decently enough:

Phenom II 955 Quad Core 3.2GHz CPU
1TB 7200rpm Hitachi HD
8GB DDR3 RAM
GTX460 (768MB GDDR5) Graphics Card
500 Watt Power supply
Gigabyte motherboard
Cheap Dell monitor
Nothing else really note-worthy

I built my M4 carbine.
I paid off my debt.
I experienced owning a supercar and am about to down-size into a 370Z.

I am in saving money-buying land-building a house mode, now. I probably won't build a killer PC until I have the house built, so I hope this PC lasts me for a few years. I want to build when I am 30. Less than a month from 26, now. Goal is to have moved by the end of next year and have paid off the land I buy (25-50 acres I am looking for) by the time I am 29, and by 30, put 20% down on a house and build.

You are fine with that PC for a while as long as you stick to one monitor. The 955 is a good chip and the GTX460 should be able to handle BF3 on medium-high settings. So you should be good to go. :)

That's what I figure. I have a small monitor now, like 19" I think, and I am not using HD. I do plan on a 24" or so and HD in the next few months. Definitely staying single monitor, though. It fills my needs okay.

PC as listed cost me $1K built, I added up all the parts and it looks like I paid about $200-250 for labor. Considering I am PC illiterate, money well spent IMO.

If anyone local needs help setting a PC up (Atlanta area), I would be happy to assist, lemme know. :)

Next time you need a new PC from the ground up you should try it yourself. It's really easy. You just need a basic $10 tool kit with anti-static wrist strap. Watch a couple videos on Youtube and voila... you can build a PC!

I'm just afraid I would get parts that don't play nice with each other and end up with a build that was imbalanced or internally incompatible either physically, or operationally.

It is fairly hard to mess up a custom build now a days honestly.
Just throw up what you want, what you think will work together and we will help you along the way.
