Bike wreck

Well yesterday I decided to take my bike to work. The weather was going to be around 65 by the afternoon. So on the way back home in the afternoon, I turned onto my main road to get to my house. Not more than 12 minutes from my house.

Two cars in front of me already had brake lights on and it was a passing stripe. So I went around and saw a clear shot so I accelerated to 60 miles an hour. As I reached that the first car put a left hand turn signal on and turned left. It was to late for me to stop. SO I locked the brakes and the bike went sideways hitting the car. I went flying over the cars hood and landed 12ft away in soft grass. The bikes entire front aluminum wheel shattered Front shield shattered side bags went other places the back metal platform for a rear bag was scrap.

And there I lay on my back kicking myself for A passing the cars and B having a feeling that something bad was going to happen.

My knee was swollen and my ankle hurt, left back just got some rash but nothing bad.

I was wearing a backpack with a book and my laptop. Which amazingly after getting a dent in the lid and a scar from the metal ring from the binder still works just fine.

My dignity has been hurt but I am alive thank god. Just wanted to let you all know what was going on. This morning I actually feel better enen though i am only taking Advil.

Bike was a 2009 Kawasaki versys and was a great bike. It will be missed.

Sorry to hear that I'm glad your ok.

bigaudiofanat 12-23-2011 08:16 AM

Thanks my helmet did what is was suppose to do, couple of scrapes on it from impact. Now I have to get another one.

TreeSemdyZee 12-23-2011 08:32 AM

Oh my gosh dude!
I'm glad you're OK. That could have gone a whole lot worse for you. It's hard to listen to those "niggling" things in your head. Remember. Hind sight is 20/20.

ChrisSlicks 12-23-2011 08:34 AM

Glad you're okay.

Yeah the brake lights on would have prevented me from passing, it's a sign that either they've seen something that you haven't or they are considering a turn.

The bike can be fixed, although it probably won't be cheap. A lot cheaper to fix than a car though.

Sorry to hear, man. At least you are OK and this will hopefully make you a better rider.

eastwest2300 12-23-2011 10:34 PM

Matt did you have frame sliders on the bike?

lingling1211 12-23-2011 10:40 PM

Yikes... glad you're ok bro.

I always wanted to get a bike, but between the stories like this that I read about and the stories from my supervisor, I'm a lil freaked out about getting one...

Motorcycles are fun, they're just dangerous.

Snakes709 12-24-2011 12:03 AM

the bike isnt dangerous, its the person riding it or the drivers around you. knock on wood ive never been in an accident on my bike. In this case (and im not meaning to bash you op) the op made a bad decision to pass, (yes it was legal) but if he had more patience and waiting behind the other cars he wouldnt have crashed.

eastwest2300 12-24-2011 12:21 AM

theres many more factors that could contribute to a crash than just the person driving the motorcycle and the drivers around him, bad road conditions, incliment weather, road debris just to name a few. Personally, I think inexperience and speed are the biggest factors for motorcycle incidents.

Skeeterbop 12-24-2011 01:30 AM

Glad to see your ok!

i agree, which goes back to the rider. If the rider is enexpeirenced then he should be going a speed at which he is comfortable with. As well as weather, road conditions and road debris. My city is the worst, we have very poor driver, sand on the road 24/7 from the winter (the city does a horrible job at cleaning the roads) and pot holes/tire groves are all over the place. but yet, with my expeirence i control my bike 100%. Not saying im the best rider on the road, but im comfortable with my bike and my expeirence level.

It is ok to get one, I have been riding for 3+ years and been ok, my father has been riding for 30+ years and never had an accident. Just play the game I am invisible when you ride and you will be ok. ABS is a must after what I have endured. I am going to get back on after I recover, I just love it.

I agree with you, it was my choice to pass and I should of waited, 30 seconds more and I would of been ok.

Been there done that!!

Glad the OP was AGATT and walked away (relatively). I had this happen with pickup truck/trailer driven by a redneck. The turn lights didn't work on the trailer. Fortunately, he had his windows open and heard the loud exhaust. After this, i'm a firm believer of loud pipes saving lives. Anyway, the lesson I learned was to never pass another car/truck in this type of situation until it's absolutely clear what their intentions are.

To the OP, interested in a 2009 fz1, fully loaded for touring?
