What time did Sean Connery arrive at Wimbledon? Tennish.

With all that's been said....my .02 is that the OP has some major diplomatic :nutswinger:. Kudos to you sir for admitting a mistake in judgment and apologizing for it. I don't know who does it better you or Tony Romo, Oui!

This brings to mind a whole other argument.

There was a recent study that consisted of a control group of individuals drink 6 beers in 30min. then drive an obstacle course with pylons.

A second control group involved people on cell phones, required to maintain conversation and answer questions while on the phone taking the same course.

The people on the phones performed MUCH worse....

You won't do jail time if you hit someone while on your cell, because it's socially acceptable even if it's illegal in some states but it's proven to be much more dangerous.

6 drink in 30 minutes will get you hammered! lol

You did something that nobody could reasonably be expected to find offensive -- the joke was as corny as an old Jonny Carson joke. There was nothing for you to "own up to". A "Sorry I offended you" is appropriate, but you more or less admitted to doing something wrong and inappropriate which you did not.

Just because someone if offended by something we write or say, doesn't mean it was wrong to say it. Maybe you don't even realize it but you were bullied into erroneously admitting you did something wrong.

:tiphat:

:bowrofl: So, drunk driving jokes are not offensive to any reasonable person? I'm glad you're the expert on what we can and can't find funny.

shadoquad 09-16-2011 10:34 AM

Maybe he was bullied, or maybe he realized that he offended some folks.

I've offended people with humor. I'm usually enough of a man to apologize when I do.

I'm sure that many drunk driving jokes are offensive in general, but RiCharlie's one wasn't. You can't always just place something in a category and say -- everything in this category is offensive -- no exceptions. There are degrees to which jokes can be said to be offensive and this one was more or less as mild as they come.

ok, so as long as I post a "mild" racist joke, the target ethnicity won't find it offensive. ok, roger, got it. :bowrofl:

I did mention that an apology is appropriate. You can be sorry about someone's hurt feelings whether their attitude towards what you said is justified or not. But, this doesn't mean you necessarily admit that what you did was wrong or even, in fact, that you would take it back.

edub370 09-16-2011 10:39 AM

i would like to chime in for a second and take a vote of all those who dont give a sh*t about who is to blame/ why someone apologized/ or just genereally that this thread is surviving based on us arguing like children... all in favor of this vote say "yay". all opposed....

But the option to do so is completely his decision. And just because he decided to handle it that way doesn't mean he was bullied. :icon17:

racist jokes are against forum rules I believe, so no, that would not be appropriate. And anyway it is a false analogy. A joke about stumbling and banging you elbow might not be offensive, but a joke about falling off a cliff and being impaled might be, but they are both about falling.

Anyway, I agree. Dead horse. The OP did what he believed was right and that's likely good enough.

No. It was conjecture on my part that he apologized because he was bullied. He was bullied. The two threads are proof of that, but you are right that it doesn't mean he apologized for that reason.
