Funny joke. Also word for word a re-post of

Fredtalk: Drinking and Driving,,,,

Which is likely a word for word repost of someone else's post ... and so on and so forth :)

Hello all, I was hit by a drunk driver and had a massive brain injury. I spent 7 months in the hospital and 1 month in a coma. It changed my life forever and my medical bills were $7.2 million dollars.

It was his 4th DUI and he also had NO car insurance. I am lucky to be alive.

So, if you think your comment is cute...think again.....

I'm sorry about your experience but I have no idea what that has to do with the joke the OP posted. It's old and likely predates your experience. No drivers were harmed in the telling of that joke.

Making fun of drinking and driving is part of WHY we have it as a problem. My accident occurred in 2007 and its irrelevant WHEN it happened. Drinking and driving is WRONG!

If you had nearly died (and was suppossed too), you would have a different opinion. Making light of it only makes others take it less seriously and then someone gets hurt or dies.

Fastfatdude 09-14-2011 09:14 AM

Chill dude, drink driving is bad and we all know it...and OP post was a joke...

There are jokes about whites, blacks, asians, amputees, deaf, dumb, intellectually challenged.... Goes on and on.... And that doesnt mean we makes light of racial discrimination, genocide, downs syndrome and on and on....

So relax and dun give the dude grief...

I hardly ever agree with Blue370tt, but I kinda have to here. I don't think that it's an appropriate joke for a forum centered on cars and driving. DUI/DWI is an epidemic that's taken far too lightly in this country.

I had a $2 million annual cap on my policy....but my company was self insured so they made the decision to pay it all.

What happened to A hole that hit you? Did you file a civil damage suit? I also agree this kind of humor(?) is not for this site.

Did you actually read the joke or just see the thread title and see it was a joke and then get all offended?

We can all agree that drinking and driving is wrong and irresponsible. But there is no evidence that making a light-hearted joke (and the joke is light-hearted ... it doesn't even qualify as "dark humor") or laughing at one makes one more likely to do the act portrayed in the joke.

I'm truly sorry if the OP's post pushed your buttons, but we all have buttons that can be pushed -- though mostly all will not have had a life threatening experience as you have had.

This is the internet (as others has repeatedly pointed out to me) ... not a group of close friends who know about your experience and are careful to steer clear of topics sensitive to you. That said, someone wishing to post a joke can not reasonably be expected to know that there is someone in the audience who feels that strongly about the subject matter. Truly tasteless or indecent jokes are either not allowed or only allowed in appropriate sections, but this was neither. It just happened to be about a topic you are very sensitive about because of personal experience.

Perhaps a bit of a stretch ...

"If you post it, there is someone somewhere who will be offended by it"

...i thought rule #34 was "34. There is porn of it. No exceptions."

i prefer rule 28. There will always be more ****** up **** than what you just saw.

I think that 4r3s was thinking it could be generalized, but, as I said, it would be a stretch

Nismo_Q 09-14-2011 07:49 PM

If I was drinking and couldn't drive my car home, I would just have it towed home. Free roadside for first 36K miles. Not to mention a free ride home.

Nothing happened other than he received his 4th DUI. I did hire an attorney and a private investigator who both determined he had no assets. I walked away from the situation with nothing gained and much lost.
