I think my coworker/roomie jacked my glasses

After getting back from a weekend in Vegas I get up in the morning and while in the kitchen I noticed a pair of familiar RayBan sunglasses I had lost at my work 3 years ago. Since I fish often I needed polarized glasses to cut the glare on the water. This pair was indeed polarized and very similar in style. Checked old pics... same glasses. Called the store I purchased the glasses from they ended up being the same model.. everything. Since he is my co-worker / roomie I figured to send him an email to confront him (also to state the facts in a detailed manner) Just taking the glasses was out of the question! Anyways here's what I wrote..

Hey :icon23:,

I was in the kitchen earlier when I noticed there was a pair of Rayban sunglasses on the desk. They looked somewhat familiar to a pair that I had three years ago: Polarized and Aviators.

The pair that I owned I had left in the lab for a couple days when they ended up going missing. I bought them at the Sunglass Hut (Circle Centre) in Indy when I was visiting a friend and a couple weeks later I had lost them. They cost 189.00.

Checking out old pictures they are the same glasses...

I called up the Sunglass Hut and they were able to verify the model number: RB3387, batch: 004/84, and bridge size thats engraved under the nose bridge: 64 15. All of the numbers match up. They also offered to send me a copy of the receipt. I believe I have a box for the glasses as well in Riverside. I feel like im in CSI.

Ill be open about this by sayin Im gonna hold onto the glasses. If you can provide proof that you purchased them (or someone gave them to you as a gift) Ill happily give them back. If not ill just say that you were able to find my long lost glasses... No harm no foul..

Thanks,
Mark
Should I have handled this differently? He hasnt responded yet and Im going into work in an hr! I wonder how itll go down...

LOL dun dun dun...

probably would have been better if you let him 'return' them instead of taking them back yourself...

otherwise - good work.

Don't be a wuss, confront him directly instead of sending him an email.

Even though you said "no harm no foul," it will still be awkward especially since you took them back. I will say, that is some good detective work! I am always amazed that people so close can take stuff and think that they won't be called out when they slip up with the missing stuff.

Lol, three years later..........

Don't jump straight to being confrontational. I hate thieves as much as you do, but since this guy is your room mate, I would tread lightly. Ask, but don't accuse, although it may seem you have passed that point. If all else fails, sleep with his girl or something.

So I spoke with my co-worker and he was sorry he took the glasses. He said that he has RayBan sunglasses and thought they were his. He told he he too bought them at Sunglass Hut. I told him dont worry about it as it can happen to anyone.

(I remember asking everyone in the lab if they've seen my glasses, including him.)

At least I got my glasses back... feels good after spending a weekend in LV!
