well maybe not quite out loud...

actually it was more like a chuckle....

In reality I just breathed out...but at least it didn't make me stop breathing!! :tiphat:

:icon18: At least I knew it was a bad joke....I hopefully saved myself from being self :owned: this time by admitting to it!

you're right on that. I mean ultimately I have read/see/learned that the best AF mix to try to reach is between 10.5 and 11.2 giving you the best output w/o risking some kind of interior destruction. Or maybe that's just with FI. Can someone clarify that?

For our car (or any NA car) you want around 13.

lower air to fuel ratio is running richer

doesn't change the fact that I've done more research and learned more about the Z than most of their owners:icon23:

FI is more prone to detonation. I haven't looked in a long time but I thought ideal A/F ratio was in the 13's somewhere, with 14.2 being the absolute max lean you can go. I could definitely be wrong though, it's been probably 6-8 years since I've had an A/F gauge in my car

So that is just FI then?

Caravanshaka 08-18-2009 09:42 AM

you are stuffing a whole lot more air in the combustion chamber with FI, so I could believe that they need to run with a lower A/F than NA to keep the car safely detonation free...but I don't know the numbers for them off-hand

theDreamer 08-18-2009 09:44 AM

Yes, for FI you want to be around 10-11 I believe.

I was just having this discussion with a couple of guys the other day. One is a buddy of mine fresh outta UTI and 2 other guys in their 60's/70's with over 50 years experience. Those were the exact numbers I was given by them but we were talking about different motors. Some good ole american muscle, the 2JZ-GTE and the RB series motors.
