I'm bringing the sexy back.

frost 03-24-2009 10:37 PM

I'm bringing anonymous one night stands back.

BanningZ 03-24-2009 11:45 PM

Hehe nice. Whatsup Ice man?

frost 03-24-2009 11:47 PM

Not much. Had jaw surgery, got my jaw wired shut. Have to live on a liquid diet for 6 weeks. Lost 15 lbs in the last 5 days.

BanningZ 03-24-2009 11:49 PM

^ whoa! Serious. How come?

frost 03-24-2009 11:51 PM

Correcting TMJ. It was either that, or have a horrible "click" in my jaw the rest of my life, which hopefully, there is another 150 years of.

BanningZ 03-24-2009 11:58 PM

Wow!
I'm getting implants in the next six months. I was born with the worst genetics known to man when it comes to teeth. Its not uncommon for a big hunk of molar to just break off at random, so suppose I can kind of sympathize.

frost 03-25-2009 12:11 AM

I know what you mean about bad genetics when it comes to teeth. My parents had to get fakies in their 40s, my grandparents all have fakies. So sure enough, I couldn't have been older than 14 and I was getting a gum graft

BanningZ 03-25-2009 12:31 AM

Yeah well maybe we should start the sh1tty teeth club. lol. Anyways they all have to be yanked out and heal for 6 months. literally half of my mouth will be gone. It sucks too because I brush 2-3 times a day, I floss, I use fluoride toothpaste and fluoride rinses.

I just hate being chastised whenever I go to a new dentist. I'm just like, "You know what dude, Fvck off! you haven't had to deal with the genetic hand I have."

BanningZ 03-25-2009 12:32 AM

when I had braces when I was 14-16 they straightened my teeth but ended up doing more damage then what they helped. 38K for a new mouth. Oh joy! What did your surgery run?

frost 03-25-2009 12:35 AM

Yeah, I've had braces for the last 3 years. And then I'll have to get caps and other work. Not to mention the receding gum line that caused the gum graft years ago looks like it's coming back.
haven't seen the final bill on the surgery yet. I do remember a doctor telling me it starts at about 15 large.

BanningZ 03-25-2009 12:52 AM

Your lucky actually my soon to be brother in law had his jaw cut in four places for tmj and had two sections of the jaw removed and the initial bill was 23K and thats just from the first bit of work, doesn't count follow up.

BanningZ 03-25-2009 12:55 AM

I always wanted to start a foundation for people with bad teeth that couldn't afford the dental work. They would be evaluated and anyone with drug use(i.e.: meth, not pot) would be denied. All smokers would have to quit to receive benefits and cases would be looked at on an individual basis. It would be 100% non profit and 100% of care would be paid for. One day maybe, one day.

Edit: I'm a smoker and I have to quit in order for my implants to take.

BanningZ 03-25-2009 03:26 AM

Hey Shumby! Where are you?

I have a question I want to ask.

frost 03-25-2009 11:51 AM

So how do you plan to stay afloat? What money does get brought in?

BanningZ 03-25-2009 04:40 PM

^thats the million dollar question.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 07:37 PM

the income figure is like 170K........opps............did i say something about Shum

BanningZ 03-25-2009 07:42 PM

Dammit where is Shumby? I want to ask him a question about the tile in his shower. Yeah I know its random but I'm remodeling a bathroom right now and my fiancee and I are debating tile size.

frost 03-25-2009 07:44 PM

Hard to go too big in the shower, because it's vertical something like a 16"+ tile will slip instead of adhering to the wall. So unless you want to sit there and hold them while they attach ...

nogoodname 03-25-2009 07:48 PM

his wife bought him a PS3, so he's kinda busy......lol

Wow 16"+?! We were thinking 12"x12" but I've never done tile that big before. Only 4"x4" and 6"x6". You have some experience with tile Frost?

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:14 PM

i broke some tiles...lol

how hard can it be to install, just get the right mud and get those spacers....then grout

frost 03-25-2009 08:17 PM

Not exactly, I took one of those home depot classes.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:18 PM

^ class went wrong.....lol

BanningZ 03-25-2009 08:19 PM

Well I know when you go larger you are using floor tile. They say floor tile is fine for walls but wall tiles cannot be used for floors.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:23 PM

well, it's common sense to use large tiles on the floors and not on the walls.

1st it covers more space per tile and is easier to give a level floor.....lol

frost 03-25-2009 08:24 PM

Well, I think it's the material you're concerned about, not whether it's labeled as a floor or wall tile per se. What type of tile? Some adhesive wont stick to porcelain tiles.

I think we are migrating away from having to use small tiles for the wall. It's a slow transition, but looking at really expensive shower setups, it seems to be getting common to use 12+ tile.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:26 PM

well, i like traditional then.....lol..........oh well

frost 03-25-2009 08:27 PM

Nothing wrong with traditional, it's definitely easier to do!

No actually it has to do with structural integrity. Wall tiles cannot support the weight of people walking on them.

These are a faux slate. I don't see any real problem regarding adhering to the walls, I'm just curious if their are integrity problems over time with a larger tile.

BanningZ 03-25-2009 08:29 PM

just because the nicer homes now do a 12"+ doesn't mean they are better. Unfortunately I don't work with any contractors anymore since we sold the business so I'm doing lots of web searching.

frost 03-25-2009 08:31 PM

Integrity problems how? I couldnt imagine integrity problems from the tile itself, just how good of an install you do :D
You probably know about backer board, and you probably also realize you need to use a quick set poly blended mortar, and only do one tile at a time. Slow and patient.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:35 PM

also, you need the underlying layer to attach the tiles for strong durability and waterproofing it.

BanningZ 03-25-2009 08:36 PM

Yeah I'm using hardie backer this time instead of the traditional cement backer board. I've been told it holds up longer. Got my mortar, sealer, spacers, grout, etc. Should be good.

My fiancee really likes the stuff in Shumby's shower but we are debating the size of it. I say its a 12"x12" she says its a 16"x16". I think the 16"x16" is just too big and would require unnecessary cutting, not to mention the weight on the wall.

Edit: That and I think the difference between the stuff in Shumby's Shower is marble and we are looking at slate or faux slate.

nogoodname 03-25-2009 08:37 PM

google "Holmes on homes", he does the bathrooms perfectly...
