Hey, hey, whats up og strangers

theDreamer 09-05-2009 04:33 PM

Not much, trying to find a good OTA TV tuner, think I found one.

StLRedrider 09-05-2009 04:36 PM

what one are u looking at?

theDreamer 09-05-2009 04:38 PM

Newegg
Does OTA which is what I mainly want, plus has slot if I want to record from cable. Though the main reason for OTA is because I have Uverse and it uses IPTV and no tuner card can record IPTV yet. Though the Uverse DVR is very good, so my plan is to get a solid OTA tuner, record my more minor shows I rarely watch on it and offload them to my server.

StLRedrider 09-05-2009 04:40 PM

sounds great

theDreamer 09-05-2009 04:47 PM

Also looking at a new laptop, want to buy something cheap (just for school & internet on the go). I hate the netbooks on how small they are, but the cheap price is so hard to pass up. I think I found my solution, the Asus 1101HA, 11.1" screen, netbook power & price and a good size and has a battery life of 6 hours under heavy use and 10 on light.

bigaudiofanat 09-05-2009 05:08 PM

Look at acer laptops they are pretty cheap and run well

Didn't know they still made those, lol. I think that was my first laptop.

theDreamer 09-05-2009 05:26 PM

The Acer are nice, but my big thing with the Asus is they have always been one step ahead in the netbook game and no one touches them on battery life currently. I have class for six hours straight (plus some before & after time) and need a battery to last that entire time with plugging it in.

In the end all the netbooks are basically the same, same parts, similar case designs. It comes down to how easy can you adjust hardware/software, battery life, and keyboard.

I loved how my old HP had a 10-key. That was more important than lots of things.

theDreamer 09-05-2009 06:23 PM

Have not seen a 10 key in years, how old is your HP?

There sure are a lot of new people with repetitive questions the last 2 weeks. Sudden spike. I try to help them out, but I dislike having all these new threads to go through.

I just wouldn't respond to them.

I'd have double the posts if I responded to all of those repeat threads. Sometimes I'm feeling nice, but most of the time I look and walk away. Very similar to this. :wtf2:

frost 09-05-2009 06:59 PM

Yeah, each type of response seems to have its pros and cons.

BanningZ 09-05-2009 07:12 PM

Hey Frost have you talked to Nogood today? Is his Dad okay?

frost 09-05-2009 07:14 PM

Haven't seen him at all, and I've been around all day.

BanningZ 09-05-2009 07:27 PM

Lame, hope he's doing okay.

frost 09-05-2009 07:29 PM

Yeah, I don't know any of the story, but I'm smart enough to figure out someone needing to be picked up by an ambulance is generally serious.

BanningZ 09-05-2009 07:32 PM

In 4 days it'll be the anniversary of my mothers death.

Hard to watch loved ones go down hill.

frost 09-05-2009 07:33 PM

wow; what anniversary (if you don't mind me asking)

BanningZ 09-05-2009 07:39 PM

*Warning* This story is graphic.

She died of a Cardiac arrest on September 9th 2006.

She called me said she was having heart problems. I told her to call an ambulance. She didn't want to because Kaiser Permenente canceled her a year earlier and didn't want to spend the money on an ambulance for a false alarm.

I told her I'd come over.

I walked into her kitchen, she lurched up, from the arrest, smashed her face against her coffee table. It broke her nose and shattered her dentures which sliced up her mouth and throat.

I cleared her air way out with my fingers and remved the plastic shards. I called 911, and performed CPR for 10 minutes.

She died in my arms on the kitchen floor.

After the ambulance left with her, I found my self trembling in front of a mirror with my hands and face covered in her blood.

It was pretty rough.

Sept 9th is a day that stands out for me.

frost 09-05-2009 07:46 PM

I don't even have the words for that story mate, I couldn't do it justice. How old was she?

64. Had me when she was 38. I was unexpected :D

Its allgood, we all go out eventually, that was just a really hard way for her to go.

I'm okay now, but it was pretty rough for a while.

frost 09-05-2009 07:54 PM

I would think so, anyone in your position would. I know "being there" is better for the person going, but it's horrible for the person being left behind. I watch my mother kill herself day by day with one of the unhealthiest lifestyles I've ever seen, so oddly enough, when she does go, I feel like I would probably be more prepared.

Lame.

Okay my bad I brought the thread into a melancholy mood.

I'm gonna go get something to eat and come back with a more cheerful attitude.

Then we Rock!
