Ok, quick question.....this Smurf emblem or decal that I'm having put on my strut brace tower....what the heck should it be made out of so it doesn't get messed up too quickly? I know it needs to be able to handle the temperature under that engine. Suggestions before I call this place near me and sound like a total freak of nature?

(I know their gonna help me but on the other end the clerk will have the "Are you friggen serious?" face going on!)

^ not vinyl lol

they can't create a stencil of some sort and powdercoat it on? that's the only thing i can think of. it'd be more expensive for sure, but you know it's not gonna burn up.

you can't stencil and powdercoat, you'd need a high-temp tape that stuck on there.

You could use a high-temp white paint...similar to ones they use for pinstriping underneath a clear powdercoat.

Nice idea!

Thinking of calling these guys:

Ohhhh......so this little extra touch I want will need to come from the powdercoater? Not worth my time calling anyone additional?

well high temp tape is available; i wonder which is more cost effective, to go with high temp paint or the tape for a stencil?

CHROME.. end of discussion

;)

SHINY SMURF...haha

phelan 09-11-2009 11:49 AM

wouldn't the tape be perfect though? you have a black tower so you just stencil out w/ tape the smurf and fill in appropriate areas with white, then when you lift you're done...?

sloterg 09-11-2009 11:50 AM

sounds like a good idea

Caravanshaka 09-11-2009 11:51 AM

^that was my thinking on it.

However, I see no issues with a simply vinyl sticker. The temps aren't going to get hot enough to degrade it I don't think.

phelan 09-11-2009 11:55 AM

actually that's true, i've never really noticed the strut bar being ridiculously hot.

2theextreme 09-11-2009 11:56 AM

Several different options......I guess calling the FastSigns place and just describing my intent would garner another totally different opinion! :p

Caravanshaka 09-11-2009 11:56 AM

Although, I think if we told 2theX he had to go kill a smurf, flatten him, and glue him to the strut bar he'd go look for a place that said they could handle it!
