Well I am not either. Pilots are rated to be VFR or IFR rated. VFR mean visual flight rules, or see and avoid other aircraft. There are also basic weather requirements to fly this way. That is a ceiling of 1000ft or higher and visilbility of 3 miles or more. if the weather is lower than this and you are not IFR qualified you cannot fly your plane. you also cannot be VFR above 17,500ft.

now if you're an IFR (instrument) rated pilot you can fly in all weather using your instruments only. in fact when they train, they "go under the hood" which means they block the windows while you are flying so you cannot cheat, much like when you are in the middle of clouds at night, you lose all spatial reference and must trust your instruments, this is why JFK jr died a few years back. he was a vfr pilot and flew into haze at dusk and got disoriented.
