The Fast and the Furious - 10 Years

June 22, 2001 changed the car community for the better or for the worse, either way it was changed this day.

Le sigh... Actually, that's hard to believe.

shadoquad 06-22-2011 10:27 AM

Not hard for me to believe. Just wish they'd kill it with fire already :rofl2:

No! I needz moar! The new ones are a lot more action movies than racing movies.

I think it made it worst for a few years with all the neon lights and blinkers everywhere. But thank goodness that didn't last too long.

m4a1mustang 06-22-2011 10:32 AM

The race scene. :bowrofl:

phelan 06-22-2011 10:56 AM

It definitely influenced more customization and newer things to be invented as well as more people now know about cars, such as myself. I was almost 16 when 2 Fast 2 Furious came out and it definitely boosted my interest in cars a whole lot. I honestly don't think I would be here where I am without those movies, as flashy and unrealistic and neon as they are. I also believe it caused car manufacturers to come out with sports cars and/or bring back discontinued models, listed below:

RX-8, Skyline (Nissan GTR), 350Z, Dodge SRT4, Chevy Cobalt SS, Ford Focus SVT, Honda Civic was redone, Scion was born.
If I left out any, please correct me, also if you feel I'm wrong, let me know.

It also indirectly influenced American companies to make more stylish modern looking cars because the japanese manufacturers had the best styling in the 90's and early 2000's for sure. Started with Ford, then Dodge/Chrysler, and then GM.

Good stuff. The special effects were not as cheesy as one would expect a decade later. LOL at Ja Rule (He looked like a midget then)

I think it was a combination of those cheesy, horrible pictures and the video game industry (Forza, GT, NFS, Dirt, etc)

ScGRaceR 06-22-2011 03:58 PM

ahahahhaha

The first movie was full of funny one-liners. Not a bad franchise imo.

I still blame this movie for making the 4th gen supra so dam expensive. And it probably inspired some ricers.

+1

I probably wouldn't be as much of an auto enthusiast today had it not been for this movie
