Beer drinkers from Texas beware...

This will make your head hurt. Me and the wifey were at Applebee's eating dinner, when I overheard this between two male patrons in their late forties:
Patron 1: What are you drinking?
Patron 2: Zeigenbock.
Patron 1: Oh! Texas' version of Shiner Bock.

Made my head hurt trying to figure out the train of thought here. :icon14:

For those who don't know, not only is Shiner Bock made in SHINER, TEXAS, but Shiner is less than two hours away from here. :bowrofl:

oh ok :ugh:

Applebee's :shakes head:

Old folks... Eh what can you do

jordan3720 05-26-2011 09:37 PM

I don't know what's sadder, that two 40+ year old Texans didn't know this, or that I'd know that since I was 16...

Lemers 05-26-2011 09:37 PM

Great story bro

Boost_lee 05-26-2011 11:23 PM

lol sad

Although, I do prefer a glass of Zigen over regular Shiner

phelan 05-27-2011 01:07 AM

i downed a 6 pack of shiner in the two days i was in austin. i'll never be able to get it that cheap out there lol

Dark Sarcasm 05-27-2011 08:59 AM

i was told Zeigenbock is made by Shiner and bottled for AB or Miller or whoever.

Dark Sarcasm 05-27-2011 08:59 AM

and Shiner by the case is like $21 at Sams Club.

bluelion 05-27-2011 09:13 AM

i prefer St Arnolds.

I don't think ZB is made by Shiner. I'm a long time Shiner fan, but I have to be perfectly honest: ignoring brand loyalty, when I taste the two side by side, ZB tastes like a better version of Shiner :shakes head:. I still buy Shiner often just to support them or whatever, but it bugs me that I like the ZB better.

I'm going to repeat this hilarious story to everyone I meet for the rest of the day. Thank you so much for posting it!

Zeigenbock is made by Anheuser Busch in their Houston,TX brewery.

It's always driven me crazy that they charge "import" prices on Shiner, when it is made just hours away. :shakes head: I've actually never had Ziegenbock, but I am a loyal Shiner drinker. Their seasonal and specialty beers are the best! :yum:

Le sigh... So pathetic!

I agree completely. Ziegenbock also gets under my skin due its only being sold in Texas. I live literally ten miles from the state line & can't get it.

I'm American-- I expect stuff to come to me at my convenience with a minimum of effort.

Their Brown Ale rawks.....but so does Shiner's Black lager. I'll need to dring 5 or 6 back to back to make the call. ;)

JARblue 05-31-2011 05:58 PM

For those of you that want cheap Shiner - and who doesn't? - keep an eye out at your local grocery store (HEB here in ATX) for the once-a-summer blowout. Usually sometime in June for about three days (each of the past three years) I've found Shiner for $6.99/12pk cans  :excited:

Dark Sarcasm 05-31-2011 07:02 PM

i love shiner but that ruby red is blech...... it took everything in me to finish off that six pack. I stay away from their seasonal stuff and stick to the bock.

Because of that I had to kick back a six pack of Black Lager last weekend. :yum:
