Getting one price then charged another...

Went and had tranny fluid changed on my truck and rear differential. Called and asked dealer how much it would cost with my own fluids. They said $75 for tranny and $45 for the diff. Then when I go and they are done with the work they charge me $83 for the tranny and & $73 for the diff + $15 in shop supplies and tax. And I have 2 and half quarts of tranny fluid left and 1 quart of rear diff left. And they just did a drain and fill not a complete flush which I asked for. Told them I called and asked how much it would cost a couple days ago and they're response is no it costs this much. That's 3 dealerships now that I have experienced this with. I call to get an estimate and then they charge me more. What can be done about this? It's bait and switch.

Ask them to provide you with a written price quote before you have them start the work. Calling over the phone can be misleading. You never really know who you are talking to.

:iagree: get a price agreed to, and then reinforce that when you drop the vehicle off. If they still bait&switch you, speak to a manager about it. Eventually, they'll either lower the price to what you were quoted or they'll lose your business.

The price quotes can be understandable, people who work there may just not know although since they work there they should ask and find out instead of making stuff up. But the service, I said flush, transmission flush, on the phone, when I came in to drop it off, flush, said it clearly. For them to tell me they just did a drain and fill when I said flush, which is common for auto tranny flush and they have a sign that says transmission flush with their prices but not if you have your own fluid. Why on earth would they not do a normal flush. Who knows. But when I called back they just put me on hold forever. This is why people don't go to dealerships, this is why I don't buy or service vehicles more than I do at the dealerships. How do they stay in business.........

Oh, man, yeah I feel you on that one. My dad dropped his truck at a garage a few weeks ago to diagnose a starter problem. They said they'd have to keep it overnight. Well, they did that, but they didn't work on it at all the next day and just said "the battery is bad".

I get tired of garages and dealerships pushing unnecessary services on us, too. I caught a garage trying to sell me on some throttle body service a few months after we'd already done it. And then there was the time a garage told me I had a severe exhaust problem. I asked if I could pass emissions with it, they said definitely not. I said, "Funny, because I drove it to your garage from a successful emissions test." :owned:
