Bmw 1 m

Just got home from the media event for the Chicago Autoshow. Here are some pics of the BMW 1 M. Pretty slick car from the outside and great color. It's one mean looking body kit and exhaust, and the front fascia includes air vents that ventilate the front wheel wells as well as an oil cooler. Things fell short on the inside though. You'd think the center stack controls came out of a low-end rental car. It's still a mean machine though.

Not bad. I like the Alcantara inserts on some of the panels, helps make their interior look a little bit less dated. For some reason BMW interiors always remind me of the 90's.

Agreed. Look at the center stack...it's a single DIN radio and some $hitty plastic dials. The whole dash flow is very 80-90s-esque. Once you get in an Audi these days, there is no comparing with anyone else.

That interior is very nice until that center dash, it is as if they just ran out of money and threw whatever was laying around into the car.
Would almost be better to just remove it all.

I don't really mind it that much at all. In fact, I wish they'd go back to the old school "M" formula and really make these things street/track beasts instead of luxury cars. Leave the regular models for that.

An M should be light, minimal, and raw. Power and handling first. You don't need no stinkin' creature comforts! :yum:

^I agree

My biggest problem with this 1 M is that it looks like a squished M3. I hate the general 1 class styling. And sitting in the M3, it feels huge. The 1M has the right proportions and intimacy for the driver...very Miata-like...just f'ing ugly looking.

how much more power it has then 135i?

SoCal 370Z 02-11-2011 09:51 AM

This is the first in the Series 1 where I actually think the styling is decent (of course it's the M and so the price matches the styling). BMW is smart though as they are covering all bases and the Series 1 is likely more prevalent to future BMW sales than people realize.

Thanks for the correction. I remember reading 335 somewhere a while back.

nuTinmuch 02-11-2011 01:17 PM

Like I said before, it would be awesome if the price wasn't silly.
