Radar Detector

I am looking to buy a cordless radar detector. I use to have one in my first car which was a escort before I smashed it in a wreck.

Here is the one I am currently looking at.

Amazon.com: Escort Solo S2 Cordless Radar and Laser Detector: Electronics

I was looking at the Valentine ones but I do not care for them. Also they are not cordless.

If you have a better recommendation please suggest it.

I have to ask, why do you not care for the V1 and why cordless?

Cordless because I have two cars and the company car and I am on a bike as well. The v1 because just seems to simple and not cordless. Also do not want to drop 500 on a v1 and strap it to my bike.

In the past I owned 2 Escort Solo cordless detectors. After a couple of summers, both of them completely failed due to summer heat in the car. I think it was mainly due to the batteries exploding. I sent both back to Escort for repair, but I wound-up throwing each of them out. I did not want to have to bring the detector into the office everytime I parked the car outside. I almost didn't buy an Escort this time around, but decided to give their corded model a try. For my cars, I have a mount in each car with Invisicord and simply move the detector from car to car with no issues. Personally, I would not buy a cordless detector again. My $0.02.

Money aside, the V1 is powered by a simple phone plug, so it's easy to run some wires in each car.

Also the V1 has the best performance and is probably more advanced than you would think. It's the only one that would actually point an arrow to show you were the signal is coming from and it can count how many threats are out there at the same time.

Often the police would be in a location where there is a lot of interference for detectors, other detectors would either mute that location or you wouldn't know there is an added signal which is the police officer without the V1.

I worked on a car that had a v1 and I did like it but I see no reason why it is better than cheaper radar detectors other than easily readable.

I plan on taking it into work espeacially on my convertible which I will leave the top down and I would not leave it on the bike nor do i want to have a wire dangaling there when not in use. Also not sure how much longer I will keep my civic as I am looking for a 4 door car. I know about the hard wire kits as well.

Cordless is just the way I want to go.

On this matter, I believe functionality over form is key...

The V1 decimates all. I believe escort came out with Redline (suppose to go toe to toe with V1). The Redline according to some is a very sensitive passport.. Mind you neither are capable of detection redlight camera like escort ix version.

My vote goes to V1.

Well I just explained why it's better, others would get you tickets, plus the range also beats anything out there in every test they do.... But to each their own...

I can't help you with the cordless one and I hope it will work out for you, but anybody I know that had one was disappointed and upgraded it pretty fast...

Good luck though

I've had the Solo S2 over a year now with no issues. Has paid for itself many times over.

Common sense would tell you not to leave electronics stuck to your windshield in a parked car during the heat of summer. Kinda invites an easy theft as well.

The Escort is the only cordless one you can buy. And if you leave any electronic device in the sun it will fry. So put it in your glove compartment when not in use or take it with you. I have a Passport, made by escort which is almost 20yrs old. Still works today.

Of course being 20 yrs old, you may be missing detection on some of the newer technologies
