id like a dog i can take jogging and hiking, but isn't to hyper at home. Landlords don't like dogs :shakes head: but said i could have one if it didn't create much of a ruckus.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my mini dachshund 8/29/13. It was the hardest thing to put him down. He had IVDD and became paralyzed. He was only 6. I just adopted another mini dachshund last week. No dog can ever replace another. But every dog has its own unique personality, and as we bond with them they show us its ok to let go and move forward. And even tho it still makes me sad to think about having to put down such an amazing dog, he will always have a special place in my heart and never be forgotten.

I know I will make some great memories with my new pup, and love him just as much as I did my last one. That is the great thing about any dog. They love unconditionally, and not matter what you have been threw or how you feel, they know how to help make you feel better.

My current pack is a female Schipperke named Tess, A female long hair mini dachshund named Vena, and our new addition a smooth coat male mini dachshund named Frank.

Here is a pic of my new guy Frank the Tank..lol.

We once had 3 rescues, a beagle, mix breed and cocker. The cocker was the last one standing and once she was solo, she had horrible separation anxiety. Would have to cage her to keep her from trying to eat the door frame of the house, and when caged, we would come home to bloodshot eyes and a really sad dog. Getting Bailey, above, was the answer to it and she was fine as long as she had another dog. Once Bonnie was gone though, Bailey enjoyed being in a one dog family.

Maybe yours needs a companion?

It may be a solution... but one that has to get past the wife. Interestingly, The dog seems to be okay outside the cage for an hour or two on her own. I just don't want to come home to a destroyed house after working all day. She destroys anything that is left in the cage.

Meet Mocha. 5 yr old puggle, and my best pal.
A wise man once told me if you need to decide between keeping your girl or your dog, lock them both in the trunk of your car for 2 hours, and see whos happy to see you when you open it!

i've been blessed for the 37 yrs. in mi casa to have had two pure bred breeds: first, my irish setters: shawn/sunny/nikki/(now) shawnee and lucy; the springers: sammy/spooky/skeary/skrewy(whom i just lost in feb.---the last of the 3 brothers whose litters were 6 mos. apart going back 16 yrs...it's always (still) heartbreaking to lose any one of them but so worth the times spent together...
