Verizon Iphone, your thoughts?

Well -- big rumor for a Verizon Iphone to hit CES this year and if you type "Verizon Iphone" on google there is massive amounts of searches and news on this. What do you guys and girls who want the Iphone on Verizon think ? Do you think Verizon will release an Iphone anytime soon, because if not then I am going to buy the Droid X...
:ugh2:

just buy a droid x. Those rumors all contradict themselves and have been going on forever, but either way i'd still get a droid x over an iphone. I just got one, and the customization possibilites are endless. HUGE dev community and support. I waited forever for the iphone to hit Verizon, then just gave up. Glad I did

checkout a few sites like mydroidworld, xda-developers, droidxforum etc.

Android > Apple

In the end they are the same phone, what you can do on one you can do just as well on the other. The difference is in how you get to the app/program/function/menu/etc.
On the note of a iPhone coming to Verizon, the contract with AT&T is technically up in 2011 but no one will know until Q1 2011.

droid x is technologically more advanced, technically. Wifi tethering for free when you root it, better camera... I believe the processor is quicker with better overclocking support as well.

edit - you can wifi tether on an iphone too, didn't know that.

See the camera, I heard wasnt and Im a professional photographer so thats my concern, anything will be better than my blackberry thats for sure, but I want something that will allow me to have my photos on and show potential clients, good color, ease of use customizable easy to download aps and use.

I am talking just features wise, hardware wise phone B coming out 2 months after phone A will always have better hardware.
Other features like tethering are limited to the carrier and we all know how much AT&T loves giving us features that are useful.

Showing pictures on the screen is great, but the camera on any phone sucks compared to a DSLR.

Yeah I hear you, so you think Droid X is better overall phone than the iphone?

I just want better picture quality than the BB, it looks like my Blackberry is shooting at 2000 ISO all the time.

lol

droid x has a bigger screen, but the iphone screen has a higher resolution and is ridiculously clear.

you can get free tethering by rooting your X... it just uses your data plan. I read iphones can do it too.

i have a X and i love it but will jump to the newest moto 4G device when i can

The iPhone will bring down the Droid sales for Verizon, so I think that Verizon will not market the iPhone against their brand smartphone.

wilsonp 12-30-2010 06:21 PM

I expect either Verizon iPhone or iPad II on Jan 20, but I find it hard to believe an iPhone 4 coming out in Jan with iPhone 5 coming out in June/July timeframe. Seems like they would barely make enough to amortize, but it may be a good way for them to test the waters, or maybe they will keep CDMA behind until LTE for parity.

As for Android, it is a very capable OS and the Droid phones aren't bad, but they aren't iPhone killers yet. Apple's control over the hardware+software makes for a much more polished experience, even stock, though jailbreaking is needed to surpass stock Android customization (and Android needs rooting for parity again).

I think an interesting generalization is the Android market best sellers tend to be phone mods/customization apps, and the iPhone market best sellers tend to be actual applications.

Since mods aren't allowed in the iPhone marketplace, hard to say how accurate a sign that is about the types of owners. Stats for my jailbreak app indicate about 10% of iOS devices are jailbroken, so seems like iPhone owners aren't as interested in modding as Android owners (are there stats for percent rooted on Android?).

I think you misunderstand who cares about what. Verizon (and other carriers) care about contracts, customers, and the two year total, not the phone manufacturer.

If they can sell an iPhone or a Droid to a customer, with the same two year contract including data plan, they aren't going to care which gets sold unless there is a huge cost difference. And unlocked Droid X and iPhone pricing don't seem hugely different.

OTOH, Motorola is going to care a lot.

I didn't misunderstood anything!

The topic is your thoughts on Verizon iPhone not the contracts, data plan or manufactures. I very well know that every company has a 2 yr contract on new phones, etc.

So you are barking up the wrong tree! ;)

wilsonp 01-02-2011 02:34 PM

So why won't Verizon market the heck out of an iPhone instead of the Droid?

theDreamer 01-02-2011 02:36 PM

Well, Verizon has been buying up iphoneverizon type domains this past week so who knows.

Windex_ 01-02-2011 03:30 PM

I have argued this for months. This is why I think they wont.
Verizon spent 5 years and countless millions of dollars trying to beat the Iphone... They did with the droid, WITHOUT the problems associated with the Iphone 4. There is no need for a stupid bumper, no need to worry if you're holding your phone correctly for reception, no need to worry if the updated software will be worse than the last. People want the Iphone yes, I will agree, but Verizon was offered the Iphone originally and they turned it down and probably regretted it. I've been through 7 Iphones, I had the grandfather unlimited data plan and I gave it up for the Droid X and will not look back.

The biggest reason I left ATT was the congestion on their network I used to have to wait 45 minutes to make a phone call sometime, and I had 3-5 dropped calls a day. According to every person I ever spoke to at ATT this was due to the iphone. Oh... and to top all of this off they upgraded my contract without permission for another 2 years and tried to make me pay a cancellation fee of $170.00, which took over 2 weeks to resolve.
