Every car company has different priorities that they feel are most important for the customers they are tryng to lure. For example, Lexus tries for an overall luxury experience with a sports twist. Porsche relies on the pure road feel/performance driving experience, Saturn tried to go for a no hassle bargain market, and Bentley goes for pure elegance. Mazda like to focus on both door performance and door elegance that is 2nd to none in the industry. They are to be admired and/or envied by evdery other car company on the planet.

It is an inside joke. Several months back a user said that he wouldn't consider buying a 370z because he felt that the doors were not solid enough, and that when he closed the doors of his old Miata, they sounded more solid, which to him meant that Mazda had better build quality than Nissan.

a bunch of us ran with it.

this is how the legend of the Miata door began, and why they can now stop tank rounds and add 30 hp.

I have to say, when I looked at my friend's Miata doors, they had absolutely no orange peel, and looked much better than my 370Z orangey doors :(

;)

Some say even a plasma cutter can't cut through a Miata door.
