Vq37 + z32???

Anyone thought about putting the VQ37 in the z32 yet?

I have a z32 project I'm doing and currently thinking about using the VH45... But the a turbo kit in the VQ37 + the Z32 would be a pretty good combo since the VQ motors are a LOT lighter than the VG30 motor I have now. I weighed my car at the truck scales the other day and it came out to 3190. I figure that's about +/- 20 Lbs to accuracy. The VQ37 weighs (from what I've heard) about 90-120Lbs less than the VG30DETT so doing the swap would only add power without affecting the dynamics of the car too much.

I'll be picking up another Z32 to do this project soon and I'm going to hold off on buying the z34 until next year. More or less, I'd like to see what changes they make for the second year run.

I've looked around and can't find any place the sells a new VQ37. Looks like Nissan doesn't like to sell crate motors like the American car manufacturers do. But I did find a few VH45 motors and they're about $700. I figure I can build a bad-@ss Z32 for about 12K or less.

Any thoughts?

That would be a pretty interesting project. HKS Twins + VQ37VHR sounds like a lot of fun.

I'd like to see that.

^^^ I've been trying to find the motor... Anyone have an idea of the cost and availability of a VQ37?

Do it

Maybe check G37 sites for totaled cars? Maybe.

or search salvage companies like Fosters and various others?

Patience Grasshopper, patience.

Some poor soul will wreck his 370z soon and the engine will be yours, if you want it.

Are the stock internals strong enough to take your mods, though?

What I like about doing the V6 instead of the V8 is the ability to legally smog the car. :D

I'll check the salvage companies. I've been looking around, and it doesn't look like anyone has 'em. Even ebay, craigslist, hollander... Etc.

According to GTM, they've got 500WHP VQ37s rolling around. LOL

The forged internals on the VH45 is what caught my eye in the first place. I can run 500WHP on the VH45 all day long without a problem.

I was reading in another thread that these motors can take 10psi on the stock internals, as long as you don't beat on it all the time. I think I would go ahead and tear down the motor since it's out of the car anyway, then slap in the fully built monster.

Crash 03-09-2009 04:17 PM

Yeah. That's what I was thinking. But then I thought about GTM's 1000HP short block. Not a bad option, but I still need a full motor first.

A lot of ppl r crashing G's on myg37...... Buy an engine from a junkyard??

Crash 03-09-2009 04:24 PM

LOL! I'll go look at myg37 real quick to see if there's any for sale.

nogoodname 03-09-2009 04:28 PM

You gotta ask ppl where it got junked to

When I get home. I'll let you know who to ask

Crash 03-09-2009 04:49 PM

Cool. Thanks. Knowing my luck, the junk yards are going to twist my arm for that motor!

If they ask for anything more than I can get an LS2, they're nuts.
