Ideas to teach someone a lesson.

Hey guys,

So there is a couple in their 30s that lives right above me in my apt. They have a son about 5-7 yrs of age. The problem I've been dealing with for the past 6 months is that their son literally jumps up and down as hard as he can, and runs around the whole place all day long. It wakes me and my roomate up and sometimes we get a panic attack at night thinking that it's an earthquake. We spoke to the manager and also spoke directly to the father of that child repeatedly. His response is "so do you want me to chain my son up and put him in a corner?". The apartment manager keeps telling us that he is moving out soon so take it just for a little while longer but it's been 6 months now.

Do you guys have any clever ideas of how we can fix this problem? I normally would go beat the guy down and have him make his son stop but I'm trying to be good this year. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Tim

Unfortunately it's part of apartment living. You really don't want to make enemies. Best thing to do is to politely ask the parents to keep tabs on the kid during quiet hours. I wouldn't want to "teach anyone a lesson."

cut off the kid's legs

I'm not sure why ppl above me deem it necessary to stomp as hard as they can around their apt as well as drop stuff left and right. I'm very courteous to the ppl below me.

Tim, thats a tuff spot to be in, but keep complaining about it, the last thing you want is for it to escalate and they decide to take it out on your car. food for thought

I'll see you at the claremont meet? To caravan from their to Fontana.

Fire with Fire!

Get some porn and turn up the volume as loud as possible.

KaienZ34 07-30-2010 09:27 AM

When i lived in apartments someone called the cops on me for the TV being to loud. It was sunday around 1 pm (just after lunch) the cops came in i played the show for them (Star Wars) at the level we were watching. They said it wasn't very loud but i had to turn it down anyway, because when you sign a lease and rent an apartment you give up certain rights. As in the sound levels normally during the day your not breaking the law unless it is louder than 70db's from the outside of the door, wall, window or whatever. But since i lived in an apartment that was not the case, so call the cops or just let it go because some people would target your car just to be a ****.

tell the parents when you specifically sleep/what your quiet hours are. They don't have to chain their kid up, but during certain hours, he can't run around like a crazy person.

DeLRo 07-30-2010 10:06 AM

Call CPS and say you're worried about the welfare of the child upstairs. Tell them you hear disturbing noises coming from the apartment during odd hours of the day/night.

Or you can get the parents to put velcro on the bottom of his shoes making it nearly impossible to jump or run.

bigaudiofanat 07-30-2010 10:07 AM

Dude I would bite my tongue because the last thing I want is them or their kid to touch my 30k+ sports car siting outside.

Cjanik 07-30-2010 10:42 AM

call the cops.

you have a right to peace and quiet in your home, if they are being obnoxiously loud at night, then yeah call the cops. they warn them to be quiet or get a ticket for disturbing the peace or something of that sort.

if you call, use the non-emergency number if you have one where your at.

tbonesteak 07-30-2010 11:25 AM

HAhaha thanks for all the advice. Altho i liked chopping off the kid's legs idea the best, i decided to take the higher road and call the mgr. I was very stern and made sure she understood how serious i was this time around. She talked to them and for now, it's died down. Turns out that the couple is a refugee that escaped from north korea....explains his kim jong il attitude and his 4 feet height. Anyhow, thanks guys.

Tim

The father's response tells me he doesn't want to take the time, nor cares about controling his child! This attitude that the father has, will come back and bite him in the future!

Maybe it's not the kid who is jumping, but the dad trying to get to the upper cabinets in the kitchen. That's why he's brushing you off.

Now they're dead. All of them. Because of you.

rench 07-30-2010 05:40 PM

At least its died down for now... but, what I used to do when ppl got obnoxious was just grab a broom and start pounding on the ceiling with the handle to give them a taste of their own medicine. That would usually stop it for the night at least heheh (or cause them to say something to me, in which case I would tell them I'm simply returning the favor and it would still work at least temporarily).

azn370z 07-30-2010 06:14 PM

Usually the sound is amplified when the noise comes from Upstairs. So it may not sound loud to them. If they are refuges they probably didn't fully understand your concerns.

tbonesteak 07-31-2010 12:57 PM

Hahahahhaha this is turning into some funny shieet. So far, my wise decision seems to be working. We'll see tho. Triples, the meet is gonna be a toss up. I might have to go to disneyland. Obligatory visit ofcourse. I hope to God i can make it to the meet....

I'd do this. But then again I can be a really big asshole.

PapoZalsa 07-31-2010 07:47 PM

That is why I hate living in apartments in the past!

Lemers 07-31-2010 07:52 PM

If the parkinglot is setup right block him in or take his parking spot every chance you get. Invite friends over and encourage them to do the same. Every time he comes to you to have you move ask him "how's it going teaching your son to walk quietly?"
