What do you do when people approach you about your car?

I have been approached and talked to everywhere i have been and to be frank it is kinda annoying in the same regard it is nice sometimes when you get people that know what they are looking at.

What do you guy/girls do in this situation, I hate getting held up from going where I need to go but i dont want to go all NY'er on some sensitive San Diegian that i dont know.

it has only been a week but everytime i go near the car people come out the wood work... and some are pretty damn creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy.

You must have a lot of friendly people over there in San Diego. I live in Phoenix and have only had a couple people comment on my car since I got it six weeks ago. And I've been out a lot.

Anyway, over the years I've had several cars and motorcycles that people would come up and ask about and as long as they were pleasant and sincere in their interest I've always taken a few minutes to talk to them. I've found that most folks don't want to talk that long and if they do it's usually possible to get away politely after 2 or 3 minutes. I guess I dealt with so many jerks in the years I lived in Seattle that I was always glad to have a person come up to me and be nice instead of giving me grief about how the car or motorcycle was too loud, too fast, or used too much of our precious natural resources.

most people say "nice car" and I say "thanks" with a nod and just turn and walk away or keep on walking. Every now and then I'll get someone who'll actually know what car it is or say "is that the 370Z?" and I'll spend a little time talking to them. Most are gas station attendants so I don't have much choice, haha. Anyways just don't pause in your actions (getting out of the car, walking away, getting in, etc), toss 'em an acknowledgment and be on your way. I don't think many people find it that rude, I mean if you have places to be you have places to be

TreeSemdyZee 05-26-2010 05:41 PM

If they are women, I obviously give them my number so we can discuss in-depth. If they're guys, I say "Thanks dude" and bolt.

The only comment I got on my z was "Is that the new Mustang?" o_O

Had a guy compliment the black cherry paint. Said he had a caddy in that color.

Usually I get people asking how the 370 is different from a 350.

I talk their ears off. I'm in love with the damn thing. lol

If you don't want the 20 Questions, just answer nicely, but don't stop moving.

I have been quizzed about my car like when I am putting something in the trunk. I just answer and continue to load the trunk then shut it when finished and get in and go.

Unless they are good looking girl, then I invite them to dinner so we can talk more.

fullmonty 05-27-2010 01:00 AM

If its a chick or feminie looking guy I usally just tie them up and toss them into the trunk

antman22 05-27-2010 10:05 AM

Whenever its a chick, I don't mind spending the extra time :) Most of the time however, its just small talk, no more than a minute, so I don't mind.

One guy came up once and said "omg, i love you car. i love those wheels, i want to make love to them." i simply said "please use a condom" and walked into the store.

Thanks for the reply's guys it is greatly appreciated...the fedex guy even talked to me about it today.... lol... he was one his time thankfully, but he was also really cool in the fact he was like there are cops over here and here and da da da.... i was like thank you!

Anyone notice the sharp stare you get from police as you pass them in the opposite direction while you are making all your movements legally? It is interesting, i guess i am just not used to the amount of attention i am receiving. Time to be human and adapt and overcome.

That's what I do as well.

sonic370 05-27-2010 07:25 PM

It can be a pain sometimes but i try to stay friendly and say thanks.
I'm just thankful to own such a car. I'm not loaded by no means but what
hacks me off is when someone comes up to you at the gas pumps and
wants to borrow!!! 10 bucks for gas to get to the next town.

BenZ 05-27-2010 10:14 PM

Scream really loudly then burn rubber!!

MC 05-27-2010 10:17 PM

im always friendly even in weird cases.. like recently i get people pulling up beside me while im inline at like mcdonalds asking me to rev up the car up or something while im trying to order or pay.... like seriously im ordering and they are sitting right there waiting on me to do something..

Hahahaha Ive never been asked for money before cause of the car I have lol... at least I dont think so lol. I usually just say a simple thank you and let it be unless they actually start talking to me about the car. Theres just so many people in this town who like to think they know stuff about cars but really have no idea whatsoever and its pretty evident once you start talking to them lol.

Mike 05-27-2010 10:21 PM

I just say thanks, if they ask more, I interact, most are enthusiasts and some just don't know but they all appreciate it. Its amazing how much more attention I get now with the spoiler. Once I tell them I track it (and explain what that means), they have even more respect.

BenZ 05-27-2010 10:25 PM

I had a guy ask me about my car then ask if I would walk with him to Chase Bank and co-sign a check for 20 dollars, so he could cash it, because he has no bank account. 2 hours after standing in line at the bank they finally get in touch with the account holder and approve the check. I guess he really needed that 20 bucks.

That's most always a scam. Used to happen a lot around Seattle. I had the same guy come up to me at 3 different stations within a month with the same story about being in town for the day to take his daughter for medical tests, forgetting to bring his wallet and needing gas.

xiven 05-28-2010 08:22 AM

They ask me about my car and this one guy asked me what I do for a living and if I went to college and crap like that. Talk about total creeper. Guess he must have thought it was a porsche or something. I do look young though so I guess he thought its too nice of a car for someone that looks young.

fullmonty 05-28-2010 09:33 AM

I had a guy come up to me and ask 'how many pounds do you sell a week' as in pounds of pot. He was serious, and then told me back in the day he used to sell 4lbs and drove a nice car. I was like ":ugh2:"

zcar_dad 05-28-2010 09:47 AM

I have had a lot of folks tell me "nice car" and then wants to know what the NISMO means. The crowd at SCCA Solo events are interested in any thing differnt vehicle wise. I am like most of the rest of the responds by telling them a little about the car and how it is different from the regular 370Z. I do get a lot of thumbs up while driving with 4 of them from cops next to me at a light.

Crazy8 05-28-2010 05:11 PM

I tell people thanks and talk to them for a few minutes, unless I'm in a hurry. I was at a drive through with my wife and this girl about falls out of the window gushing over my Z. I told my wife I was gonna come back without her. lol
