Need Help Choosing a Camera

I have never been into photography, but since I've joined this site all of the great shots of your guys' Zs have made me want to get into it. Plus, I'll be taking some cool trips around the country soon and want some pics to remember it all!

I have narrowed it down to two cameras (basically because they have HD video as well, and this is a must for me):

Nikon CoolPix P100

Canon Powershot SX20 IS

I am open to other suggestions, but it MUST have HD video capabilities. I really want to hear from you photgraphy buffs---I appreciate the help in advance! Thanks!

i'm a canon shooter so naturally i say canon is better in this case. but honestly, i believe that it is. based on keeping up with camera reviews on dpreview.com , i've found that canon tends to make a slightly better bang-for-the-buck point and shoot (and usually DSLR as well) than nikon. it also depends on what you are planning to shoot with it. if you are only planning to shoot people, nikon's tend to be ever so slightly better at people than canon's but at this point they are really about the same. you can't go wrong with either, but like i said earlier, i think the canon gives a stronger value

Thanks, I think that is what I am going with!

Try to get a polarizer filter for photographing your car. Many here do not have or use one, it will improve your photos!

I'm assuming you're after a point-n-shoot and not a DSLR, correct? I have the Lumix TS1 and absolutely adore that camera. It's ruggedized & waterproof & shoots 720p video -- a very rare combination of features. The TS2, which was released this year, only improves on almost every aspect of the original. Highly recommended.

go for DSLR!
