Videos can never be art

Video games can never be art - Roger Ebert's Journal

Quote:

Having once made the statement above, I have declined all opportunities to enlarge upon it or defend it. That seemed to be a fool's errand, especially given the volume of messages I receive urging me to play this game or that and recant the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art.
Roger Ebert seems to want to poke the hornet's nest again with this statement, but the one thing that will cause me to ignore anything this man says about the subject, is the fact he remains firm on his view that he can conclude an opinion on a subject without reviewing it. He has made this statement many times, and still refuses to attempt to properly test a video game (modern or past).

This is open for discussion on the topic and your views, I am just using Ebert as an example of an older generation reviewer and how his view, in my opinion, is flawed.
I view video games have the ability to hold the right as art, they move the mind, indulge the sense, and even have stood the test of time (in a short period).

3 words, Metal Gear Solid. Pretty much sums it up imo.

Takes a pretty bold statement to say that... considering that videos were never considered art a few decades ago... I mean its just the evolution of the way we entertain ourselves... for all I care... RE can go suck a big fat d!ck... anyone who thinks fear and loathing in Las Vegas deserves two thumbs down is a complete retard...

One man's opinion and nothing more.

Honestly you really have to be completely ignorant to make a statement like that.

He's just looking for attention.... and that's the first and last I'll say about it, as this thread is giving him attention... :)
