I've had 2 (78 & 85) and DD both of them. I got some mighty strange looks from some of the Corvette club members, who only brought their cars out when the sun was shining and no rain for at least a week... :icon14:

The recording capability is already in the current ECUs. I'm not sure when this capability was built in, but I'd guess that anything 2015 and newer is capable of 'black box' mode, ie.being able to download the last hour of vehicle data, to include speed, braking, rpm & other information. Welcome to the nanny state. :ugh2:

I think all the 370z and some 350z for that matter have an EDR ( Event Data Recorders ) but from what I'm seeing it's limited to about 30 seconds. It's in our owners manuals under technical and consumer information... Here's a snippet from the 2020 370z owners manual... ( My 2014 manual says the same thing ).

This vehicle is equipped with an Event
Data Recorder (EDR). The main purpose of
an EDR is to record, in certain crash or
near crash-like situations, such as an air
bag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in understanding
how a vehicle’s systems performed. The
EDR is designed to record data related to
vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a
short period of time, typically 30 seconds
or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed
to record such data as:
. How various systems in your vehicle
were operating;
. Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened;
. How far (if at all) the driver was
depressing the accelerator and/or
brake pedal; and,
. How fast the vehicle was traveling.
. Sounds are not recorded.

These data can help provide a better
understanding of the circumstances in
which crashes and injuries occur. NOTE:
EDR data are recorded by your vehicle
only if a nontrivial crash situation occurs;
no data are recorded by the EDR under
normal driving conditions and no personal data (e.g. name, gender, age and crash location) are recorded. However, other
parties, such as law enforcement, could
Technical and consumer information 10-25
READINESS FOR INSPECTION/
MAINTENANCE (I/M) TEST EVENT DATA RECORDERS (EDR)
10-26 Technical and consumer information
combine the EDR data with the type of
personally identifying data routinely acquired during a crash investigation.
To read data recorded by an EDR, special
equipment is required and access to the
vehicle or the EDR is needed. In addition
to the vehicle manufacturer and NISSAN
dealer, other parties, such as law enforcement, that have the special equipment,
can read the information if they have
access to the vehicle or the EDR.

I'm glad they didn't check the EDR when I had my accident but I personally would have liked to see the data

So it wasn't the car, but government oversight that actually convinced you to spend the money? :icon17:
