That tank should have been thrown out years before. Jump to 1:39 and look at the welds on the replacement drain plug. It had already rusted trough once and Bubba goober welded a new plug in the old rusty hole :shakes head:

I started prepping to add some built in bookshelves in my office with a base that'll support a nice stereo system. FIL came by and we did a cruise in the Z, which he enjoyed.

Howdy all. Man @Rusty...now you got me thinking about my own compressor. Every time I use it I have water coming out when I drain it...not much...perhaps an ounce or so but it’s there. Surely I must have some rust inside my (60) gallon tank. 175 psi. It’s 25 years old...no visible rust anywhere on the outside nor is any paint chipping on the vessel.

It is normal to have water coming out when drained. What he was saying was to make sure you drain it.

Happy Monday! Time to start the work week. I have to instruct at new employees orientation today. Always fun meeting the new recruits. It is spitting snow and my body is letting me know it is not in favor of it at all. My left knee is the size of large grapefruit and I have tension in my left deltoid that I can't work out. Here's some pictures... It's not really leaving any residual rust behind and if it is it's probably because of my 'extended' drain line setup that was put in as a convenience instead of the drain-kok valve ( insert joke here )... Notice the rust on the extension pieces...

I do drain it most times @spooler but there are some days I'll just leave it pressurized ( 175 psi ) 'cause I know that later on in the day I'll need it again to fill bike tires or what not. Now I'm thinking I don't want to leave it pressurized anytime it's unattended. I have my rec room where my family watches TV right behind that wall ! Ugh... darn it Rusty for putting this in my head...jk.

imma going to clean off those threads on the bottom of the tank later tonight just to make sure it's not rust there. I'm pretty sure it's built up grease and dirt. Perhaps time for new extension pieces too. :ugh2:

I leave mine pressurized all the time. It appears his pressure switch failed. That would be a better explanation. It should have had a safety valve on it also. I can't see from the video if it had one or not.

A safety valve prevents shìt like that from occurring. Just make sure it is working properly :tup:

All this talk about compressors reminds me I have to tear mine down to fix an air leak. :icon14:
My kids pulled it over on the outlet and bent the pipe that comes out of the compressor and the valve that controls the output pressure. I fixed all that and now it's developed another leak in the same area. :ugh2:

I think I'll put a new drain valve in while I'm fixing things... :tup:

Probably cheaper to bolt some 1/8" sheet steel over the wall behind the compressor. :tiphat:

Any water is going to sit in that pipe and not the tank. I wouldn't worry as long as it's drained regularly. It would take a lot to fill that pipe and have water sitting inside the tank. Pretty smart setup :twocents:

My compressor was my dad's. He bought around 1980. I just replaced the compressor on the tank last year. It ate the reed valves in the head, and beat the chit out of the top of the pistons. After every us. I drain the water out of it. Sometimes I get a teaspoon. Other times I get a quart. It depends on the humidity in the air that day. I also have my tank bolted down to the floor.

There is a pressure switch on that exploded tank. He shows it on another video.

I leave mine pressurized all the time. When I drain it. I look for what is in the water. Mind drains into a pan that I under the drain valve.

If you want to hydro test your air tank. This is the way to do it. But I would hold the pressure for an hour tho. At Elliott and at the power plant. When we hydro tested. Min was 8 hrs.

All this talk about compressors reminds me that I need to fill up my blow up doll. Get her nice and firm. :nutswinger:
