Ive decided I am going to pay attention to the 7mm mag in the safe. I havent worked on or fired that gun in probably 18-20 years. Was my main whitetail gun for years.

I had thoughts of visiting the place when I toss together a Z meetup again.

My buddies father owned bachelder gunsmiths around town. He had his hands on the trigger assembly and made it nice and crisp. It was so long ago I forgot the poundage but you put your finger on the trigger when you are ready to send it and not before lol.

Mine is one of the first Remington 700's with the carbon/fiberglass (Bell & Carson) stocks. I got the barrel free floated, action bedded, the bolt lapped, and a Timney trigger set at 2 lbs.

Was shooting 140gr ballistic tips. Now using the Berger 168gr VLD hunting bullets.

Oh nice, those stocks are great.

I use 168 gr. dad loaded em for me, we have a lot of brush in our hunting area. We have about 6 shooting lanes cleared in the forest but the scrub grows so fast once a tree is cleared lol

Thickets are really fun to hunt. :icon14: I hated being the one to push through a thicket. Always got torn up. When one of my 2 uncles would push a thicket. They would lite and throw M80's into them. :rofl2: If you was on the other side. You had to be prepared to get run over by anything that was in that thicket.:rofl2: I've seen deer, dogs, turkey, and a bear come running out. Just about got run over one time by a big azz doe. Just missed me by inches. Scared the chit out of me. :rofl2:

I miss those days. Hunting with the family. Every year, it seem like we get something bizarre to happen. Like my uncle using a 30-06 pump and his oldest boy using a 12ga pump unload on a buck at point blank. They had to hit the buck about 9 times. They lost it tracking it. :facepalm: Found it the next day. About a 100 yards from where they shot it. :shakes head:

To my dad using a new 243 for the first time drop a buck in it's tracking running flat out across a open field at 300 yards. When we got to the buck, we couldn't find a bullet hole until we rolled the buck over. My dad did a head shot. That was right after my uncle and boy unloading on the other buck. :rofl2:

My other uncle shot a buck, and was the first one there. When I got there. My dad and other family members was there. My uncle starts to gut the buck and the damn thing kicked him. :eek: :rofl2: The deer wasn't quite dead yet. :rofl2: I pulled the pistol out and ut one through it's head. :rofl2:

There pro's and con's to that. Couple of the barrel makers say that you don't have to break them in anymore. I'll fire one shot and clean the barrel. I'll do that about 10 times. The main thing is what the patches look like with using Sweets 7.52 cleaner. If the patches come out dark green. You have a lot of copper in the barrel. That means you still have a rough spot in the barrel. If the patches come out with hardly any green, the barrel is broken in.
