Remember that dealers will bottom dollar you on trade in. But will try to sell it for everything they can get out of it.

So early last week the deal on my dad’s house fell through. I interviewed 3 Realtors raised the price 50k, put the house on the market Thursday evening and had 5 showings on Friday, was given an offer 10k over asking and signed the deal on Saturday morning  This is a solid offer, no inspection except for well and septic, close in30 days, and he’s pre- approved for 100k over the sale price. Things in the real estate market are going crazy around here!
Forgot to mention, we also had to cancel 7 other showings!

That's what is happening around here, houses go on the market, showings on Saturday & Sunday, with no offers accepted until 5 pm on Sunday. House usually goes under contract for 40-50K over ask. It's a damn bidding war.... I could probably sell mine right now for $75K over what I paid for it, but then I'd be in the middle of this silliness trying to find another place. No thanks...:icon14:

Make sure you get a commitment for a check for face value and not some bs 'annual payment'. Insurance companies love to screw people on death claims, they will tell you that they can only pay 'annual payments' of 'dividends', especially on whole life policies. That 'savings account' is over-payment of premium and is your money. You are entitled to both, the face & the 'savings'. Read the policy closely, chances are the agent screwed your dad on how the policy pays out. :shakes head:

That is the next stop. It is set up just like his wifes was. Payable on death. They got these policies together and she passed 4 years ago. So there should be no worries.

We are waiting for the money to go to the funeral home and then they will hand up 2 checks for equal amounts of the remainder.

But in the mean time I have a truck 3 boats and a Harley to sell and cash out his retirement plus something else.

And I'm having my will drawn up in the next few weeks.

So the unions negotiate with the lawmakers who are funding home health care with medicare. I see no issues with the total lack of checks and balances there.

I don’t disagree with you as far as the unions fleecing Medicare unfairly on this issue.

BUT, there is an elderly/disabled home care crisis already starting and as the boomers get older, every year it’s getting worse.

Nursing homes are a institutionalized legal torture chamber, I and most of y’all probably agree that I’d rather die than end up in one.

The dignified answer that maintains a person’s maximum freedom and mobility in old age is home healthcare workers so you can live out your days in peace and dignity in your own house.

We desperately need investment in this country in this aspect of health care. I’m not saying this proposal by Biden is the perfect or even right answe but something needs to start happening on this issue.

Plus, it will create a lot of decent blue collar jobs.

Bottom line, we are ALL going to need this help at some point in the future, this is future proofing our own quality of life at the point in our lives where we will be the most vulnerable.

Yup, it’s hard to buy low and sell high re: your home unless you have an investment property you can crash at temporarily or you’re cool with living out of a van down by the river until the next housing recession so you can score a good deal.

I'm all for people caring for other people's old people. But if the problem they're trying to fix is people dropping out of the workforce to care for ailing relatives, paying them tax dollars for them to personally care for those relatives doesn't really count as keeping them in the workforce.

Plus the propensity for large scale fraud is just insane. When I was at the AGs office we busted a whole apt building (they had two residents who worked in the govt home healthcare aide office and were in on it) for getting paid for 'caring' for dead people.

I agree with the above

We need to create actual jobs for working class folks to provide home health care/aid for the elderly.

Medicare should at least cover part of this cost bc it’s actually cheaper than being in a nursing home (speaking of fleecing Medicare/tax payers blind)

This sort of job should pay better than min wage bc it’s more labor intensive, requires more skills, even if it’s just people skills, and frankly, I don’t want some scrub coming into my house tempted to commit robbery or ID theft bc the job pays so shitty they don’t really have much to lose.

He adjusts the tin foil on the rabbit ears on his tv. If the picture still isn't clean. He will either set up the 8mm reel to reel, or pop in a VHS in and watch the movies. He'll sit his azz in his lazyboy. After about 5 minutes, he's out like a burnt out bulb. I'm surprised that you haven't heard the chainsaw going.

Moving party this weekend. Saturday all of my stuff will be at the new homestead. Madwi and BettyZ will be down to help out.

More lawers and bankers and insurance crooks to deal with in the next few weeks. And I need to take over the lawsuit he has vs his former employer for wrongful termination. Not that I had much else going on.

Icing on the cake. Grandma is moving into assisted living in the middle of this mess. She's 88 and now needs daily insulin shots. Her doctor says she is not of sound mind enough to give it to herself and they will not help her. So the family has to go make sure she take a shot every day and only one.. I'm only backup on that but still wtf.
