Weird. And Taiwan is a big success story with respect to Covid-19. Something that no doubt irks Beijing.

But WHO walks a fine line. It has no power to force nations to play. If that’s what it takes to ensure China remains a “member” (and this virus shows how vital that is) then maybe it is a defensible policy. I don’t know.

Keep in mind that neither my country, nor yours formally recognize Taiwan. The US has consistently told Taipei one thing and Beijing another. And in as much as they don’t completely contradict one another, it has helped keep relative peace in the region for decades. Taiwan is not recognized by the UN either. In fact, only a handful of countries, none of whom are at all significant, do.

So, here are the facts re China's release of information on the virus (quoting WHO situation report # 1):
• On 31 December 2019, the WHO China Country Office was informed of cases of pneumonia unknown etiology (unknown cause) detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. From 31 December 2019 through 3 January 2020, a total of 44 case-patients with pneumonia of unknown etiology were reported to WHO by the national authorities in China. During this reported period, the causal agent was not identified.
• On 11 and 12 January 2020, WHO received further detailed information from the National Health Commission China that the outbreak is associated with exposures in one seafood market in Wuhan City.
• The Chinese authorities identified a new type of coronavirus, which was isolated on 7 January 2020.
• On 12 January 2020, China shared the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus for countries to use in developing specific diagnostic kits.
• On 13 January 2020, the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand reported the first imported case of lab-confirmed novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
• On 15 January 2020, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan (MHLW) reported an imported case of laboratory-confirmed 2019-novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
• On 20 January 2020, National IHR Focal Point (NFP) for Republic of Korea reported the first case of novel coronavirus in the Republic of Korea.

I know that it is natural to believe your own leadership above other sources, and I don't argue that China did not try to hide or falsify numbers, but I do trust the information above (which was published by the WHO on 20 January 2020. And MY CALENDAR shows a 2 month lag between the information that China released and the start of action of Canada and the USA. There is plenty of blame to go around, but that delay cannot be pinned on the Chinese.

No the blame can be pinned on the inaction of our own governments

Boris May be regretting Huawei, but that’s another topic... but at least he had sprung into action when Trump still had his head buried in the sand shouting Fake News

Not that Li Wenliang was a good guy, but he did warn everyone about the virus on December 31st. Guess what happened to him, jailed and silenced him until he died. RIP

Funny how HK reported this funny virus on January 6th, 2020.

Other than the destruction of the CCP, I can't wait to see WHO and UN fall after this too. I am sick of these cuckolds coming out doing this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlCYFh8U2xM.

Good thing that cannot happen in the the good ole US of A...

https://www.wsna.org/news/2020/state...es-and-doctors

Meanwhile, if Hong Kong didn’t have a case until Jan 6 (I haven’t checked your date but it seems reasonable) then it would seem to suggest that China did not delay very much. Think of how fast the virus is spreading. If it were around in China in say early December, it would have been found outside of the country much sooner, would it not?

To be fair, this silencing of criticism is coming from the very top

There was a big New Year party in Wuhan. Lots of people flew in for the party and then back out. That is how it spread out of the area from my understanding. The party was not cancelled as it should have been.

Also, although there was the supposed travel ban, public transport was shutdown but they were still allowing people out if they were in their own car

Ahem.... you quote the WHO, an organization that has obfuscated data and lied to cover for dictators in the past. The WHO is so far into China's back pocket it isn't even funny.

The Chinese numbers are over 10M dead from this. China's wireless services reported a 21M decrease in subscribers and considering that the CCP requires ALL Chinese citizens to have a cellphone, this is a telling number. I say over 10M because it is presumed that people could have 2 numbers, one for the city they live and one for the city where they work. :twocents:

How accurate this is is beyond me. Many people in China live in such remote areas having a cellphone is impossible / impractical.

They don’t all live in a city or work in a city. Much like how the US is made up to be honest.

The numbers are from the Chinese cell phone providers. They show a decrease in about 21M users over a 3 month period. There might be a good explanation for it; extra phone lines shut down because their shop closed, the mistress' phone got shut down, etc. However, given the CCP control over citizens and the videos that were smuggled out of China showing people being beaten by police and hauled away, I'm inclined to believe that the missing subscribers are not just all extra lines. The CCP required people to install a health app on their phone that generated a color-coded QR code (green, yellow, red) to indicate if they had a fever. While there are lots of unknowns (due to the unwillingness of Chinese citizens to talk about/against the CCP), in some of the videos I saw, the police were using the person's cell phone to determine identity, either by facial recognition or that's where 'citizens' are required to store their identity papers. Why do you suppose that 2 Chinese doctors that tried to sound the alarm about this virus had problems? One was arrested and died of CCP, the other just vanished.

I guess what's more disturbing is that people around the world are blindly believing what organizations like CNN, BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and others spew out, without engaging the brain attached above their shoulders. Ya'll do realize that 90%+ of all the 'news' media in the world are controlled by 6 organizations? How easy do you suppose it would be for someone to say 'this is how we are going to report xxxxx' all across the world? Why do you suppose all of the headlines are pretty much the exact same?

Like Agent Scully from X-files used to say 'the truth is out there', but you won't find it in the major news media. Now, more than ever, we should be questioning everything we hear and see. Nothing is as it seems. We've been manipulated by the media into believing that they are the only ones that speak the truth, when in reality, they've been lying to us for decades. There are a few of us on this forum that have been in a position to see how things really are and how they get reported. Trust me, you probably really don't want to know the unvarnished truth. :eekdance:
