It appears that the 'original idea' was to have people serve for a short time, then return to their respective towns and teach. I don't think they ever intended for us to have 'career politicians'.

I'm really tired of all the stupidity in Foggy Bottom right now. Sometimes I think the show "Designated Survivor" could be a vast improvement... :icon14:

Hah yeah the fact that we've managed to turn it into a full career is a huge problem. My comment was more that there are definitely drawbacks to adding term limits which need to be considered. (I have a copy of the Federalist Papers as well, good reading).

The Federalist Papers SHOULD be required reading for every citizen of this country.

Government moves should be slow and deliberate. Most people don't understand that government was never meant to be business and should not be run like such. It should use good business practices in the completion of it duties. The government has three main responsibilities the first is to regulate, make laws and enforce them, to protect our country and our interests and lastly to provide services that private sector will not or will but at too high a cost for those other than the wealthy. Because we have let the last latter get out control and most of private sector only cares about themselves (greed) government has moved from being for the people and by the people because of greed and corruption. The heroes that are about the people of this country are drowned of by those that have all the money and the power and we the people are ignorant of our history and how to effect change without playing the extremist game.

I have know idea if civics are even taught in High School and college anymore. It was a requirement to graduate from both when I went through. Hell well were taught about how Bill's become law in the police academy. I had to learn all that stuff because I wrote administrative rules and laws to be passed by State Legislature.

Great comment. Unfortunately the people that have the money are disproportionately responsible for new legislation. As part of working with a local representative candidate, I started reading some of the bills his opponent had sponsored. One of them he'd pushed for was that basically if you donated to a college or university, you could write it off as a tax deduction, even if your child received a free education as a result. Another was that an oil company couldn't be fined or regulated if it was going to cost them more than $1 million, no matter what it was they had done, unless the whole government agreed on it (which was not going to happen since at the time, 80ish percent of the local government was dependent on their donations to get elected).
