Internet and cells phones..then

I'm 60 and grew up with what most younger guys would think is unthinkable, not having internet. I like many older guys managed with a cup holder full of dimes and later on quarters, to make calls on our way "anywhere" inside phone booths. And word of mouth was our only source of information, let's say like me with toying then in doing steroids or even working on cars. Now being a kid I learned how to fight as I had to make friends in my neighborhood and there was no FB to meet kids that lived nearby or went to school with you but didn't take the same classes. Anyway, I was just thinking about that as now being retired and browsing the web I have learned more since January about all the "stuff" that I ever wanted to know. I remember talking about trannies with my friends back in the day but now if you Google that word you see some mighty beautiful "wo men" with a surprise package. Thanks for reading....and steroids kids they are available everywhere, just saying as I wonder what would have been of me if I was growing up now :driving:

It was different when we grew up. You went outside to play, not in your bedroom to play video games.

Played some type of ball, depending on the season. Pedaled you bicycle everywhere. Almost had to take a shower before eating dinner to get the dirt off of you. Playing army. BB gun battles that were epic.

Rusty 06-24-2019 08:13 PM

God forbid you if you had a weak arm in a snowball fight. :rofl2:

Times change, always have and always will. Thanks for sharing. I always wonder what My life will be like 40 years from now. I mean I use to listen to music on a CD player with "anti shock" so the song would not skip when hitting a bump. If I have kids, they will wonder what a CD player is, hell what a CD is! They may even think that we were fools driving in cars that used combustion and how we didn't know how to use the free air around us or the power of thought to power our cars.

Like my father use to say, there's no place to go but forward son!

Took my Grandson to NFL game(night Game) for his 21st Birthday. He is on leave from the Navy.
Also along my son.Son in law and spouses and girlfriend.

Stadium 2 blocks from hotel. We hung out after the game at stadium for a bit.
Local kid from town works for team and he and my son have been friends since childhood.

Girls went to bar across the street. When we got to Bar girls had had quite a bit and headed back to hotel.

I needed cigars so we went up the street to C store.

We are having a smoke in store lot after purchase.

Met nice young couple.Lady had that Adams apple.

After smoking and chatting they left.Asked Grandson if he noticed anything about the woman. He says nonchalantly it was a man. Can't fool a Sailor.

My son in laws head spun like the Exorcist movie. He does not get to the big city much.

As for my self; my current girlfriend and last girlfriend they are bi.For a lot of guys this is their fantasy but is not like you think it is.

I do not know if I have become more open with age or jaded.

In my early twenties, I dated a 40-year-old who was bi, as you said it's not what most men now think, orgy every night. just that there are double the people who find her attractive and she finds attractive double the population. I am open-minded and I wonder if I was in my twenties now, if I would even date. You can get involved in the computer for so many hours that dating would not be fair, maybe a bootie call here and there. Damn I remember hiding my 1st Hustler magazine from my parents under a floorboard, now you can watch porn even in church as long as you have a phone...:driving:

I remember cars going from AM to AM-FM radios. 4 track to 8 track tapes. Cassettes to CD's to USB.

All depends on where you live at. Big city, you will see more weird chit. Small town, not so much. Small towns have their own weird chit. :rofl2:

My pistols were co2 but BB gun tag was played with 10 pump air rifles. 3 pumps meant it was going to break skin.

There were also 45 players back in the 60s. I only saw one.

I shot one kid in the nuts one summer day. :rofl2: I knocked on his back door and ran under his porch, looking up through the gaps in the planks. His mom came out and looked around and didn't see anything. She went back in. I waited a few minutes and knocked on the door again. Micheal came out this his BB gun. He's looking around, but not down. I'm looking up at him. I'm laying on my back with the end of the BB gun rifle in between the gaps. He took about 2 steps and everything lined up. I squeezed the trigger and he fell to his knees, screaming. Direct hit to his nuts. Right up the cut-off shorts he was wearing. I never moved. He had no idea where the shot came from. His mom came out wondering what was going on. I laid under that porch until it got dark. It was about 5 years before he found out who shot him. :rofl2: It was one of the greatest moments in our BB gun battles. :rofl2:

AM to AM-FM was the most awesome jump for me. As a teen I was amazed at how you no longer lost the music on the radio going under overpasses or through tunnels and how there was no longer static when you drove beneath power lines. Waiting for "good" FM stations to come to my area was agonizingly slow.

All the "good" AM stations in my area either signed off around sundown or their reception weakened miserably. Having to depend upon good weather to get WLS in Chicago at night usually turned out well enough though.

Somehow I missed 4-tracks, but I went through the rest of the progression.

My mother's brother had an old VW Bug and in between the front seats under the dash he had an actual record player for 45's ( bet some of you don't know)...and had some type of shock absorption that it played very well without skips. How about AC's as an option in all cars..:driving: :roflpuke2:

Me and my brother helped my dad restore a 72 VW Superbeetle Champange edition (it was either a 72 or 76.. we restored a few VWs and my memory sucks). It was the first VW with AC. Never did get the AC running, but she was GORGEOUS after the restoration. One of a kind. Wish we kept it.

All my dad would drive for a work car was Beetles starting in '66. The last one was a '74 gold SunBug Super Beetle. I learn to drive a stick in a Beetle. :driving:

I learned to drive a stick in my dads Datsun B210. He had a manual, and my mom had an automatic that they bought at the same time.

But VW;s were so forgiving. I was driving my dads VW bus by the time I got my drivers license.

Yes, now without the Internet and phone, there is no life. All young people are either on the Internet or on the phone playing games. And how many different accessories for phones and ipad. So the son recently ordered a new apple leather ipad mini case.
