dude this one has a 3/8" drive ratchet slot in it WTF lol

on the Z i know i have ZERO room for this but cant remember if the GTR had a gap to get one in there. would make life so much easier.

The K&N filter has that. It fits on the Z thats what I usually use.

bunk 05-08-2019 12:05 PM

The plier type filter wrench is easier to use imo.

That would be very convenient if you had a filter relocation kit.

yea the Z with oil cooler thermo plate pushes it to no mans land. i just stab the filter with a pick and twist it off that way most times lol

Yeah, but it looks like the nub is the same size, so it should fit?

yea just saying with no need for the socket itself it saves a lot of space to maneuver in there.

I hate those K&N filters lol ... Most of the time the nut rounds off for me. But that's cause some other idiot put the oil filter on and tightened it as though it was necessary to prevent Godzilla from being able to remove it. If I installed the filter, I never any issues removing it because I don't tighten them down like that.

Also, just in case I did tighten it down a tad much, I have a nice metal oil filter socket that fits on the end of the filter and works great (except on K&N filters because of that stupid nut).

i have a tool for it. little plastic handle with a rubber piece you wrap around the filter, run through the handle, and it tightens on itself. works for the Z with the tight space. that tool you showed probably wouldnt work.

I dig it, I used to run the longer 1010A on the therm plate; there's MAYBE 2mm of clearance after you get it off the threads. If I didnt live in #chiberia I'd ditch the stock sandwich.

My oil filter wrench has no issues fitting it on the Z even with oil cooler thermostatic plate and larger oil filter. I can't get a socket wrench on the end, but a large ratcheting wrench or crescent wrench easily gets to it.

If my oil filter wrench doesn't do the job, I just do what FP does... stab it with a screwdriver and twist lol

That is, in fact, the tool I use to take the filter off. You just grip it like it owes you money and off she goes.

Your Z is pre-factory oil cooler, yes?

I know which one your talking about, rubber strap thing. Ive used that, the little cup you put on a ratchet wrench, the chain strap one, they all slip. The plier type one that I have has offset jaws so that you can get at the filter from different angles. I gave away all my other oil filter tools away after that.
