How you know you're getting old

Yesterday morning I decided to replace my rear difusser. I put down a moving blanket to lay on while installing the 4 bolts on the bottom of my bumper. After getting it installed with no issues I was cleaning up and the very last thing I was doing was bending down to fold up the moving blanket and felt a twinge in my lower back.Today I can barely walk.
So, after contorting my body to get in various positions to install the bolts with no problem, I bend over to pick up the blaneket and my back goes out. I was suppose to drop my car off today to have a new clutch installed and a few little things done, I can't even bend down to get into my car.

Messed up my back about 25 years ago. Much better now but can still have problems if I pick something up wrong. I've gotten pretty good at picking things up properly. :)

redondoaveb 12-08-2018 09:17 PM

It appears I'm not the only invalid on here. :rofl2: Fedex dropped off my clutch kit today. When the driver handed me the box I about dropped to my knees in pain. Fortunately it didn't make it any worse and the back is feeling somewhat better now.

Just had an "episode" in late November and I feel your pain!
The one thing I've noticed is that the older ya get, the longer it lasts!
This last "episode " lasted 7 days and I lost 3 days of work
Good luck

I blew my back out at the tender age of 33. I was working for Goodyear at the time. I was changing tires on a car, and WAM!. Felt like electric shock in my spine. I was off work for 3 weeks. Go back to work. 2 weeks later, they terminated me. Found out a couple of years later. They don't want anyone with back issues working for them.

Just a clutch (ZSpeed Stage 4). It was in a pretty big box though which made it feel like it was 100# to my back.

That sucks

Damn! Lots of back problems here. Mine has been a long-term problem but manageable. I have to get in and out of my Z like a little old lady, but I can manage and not be too embarrassed by it.

But every once in a while, just like OP, I'll bend over to pick something up off the floor or ground, and the ol' back just locks up. It is almost always a very simple movement that brings the most severe and longest lasting acute pain.

It's a cruel world out there, guys. Hope your pain passes quickly, OP!

I feel for you and the people that have chronic back issues. Fortunately for me, it's only happened a few times but each time it was just like you said, a simple movement. It really stiffened up last night while sleeping but feels better after getting up and moving around.

Ibuprofen a few times a day and a hot bath usually speeds up my getting back to normal. Good luck!

It's been almost 30 years since I blew my back out. Since then, I think I've only had about 4 times that my back has flared up. For me, it's a weird twist. I have some arthritis that makes my back stiff at times. I'm finding out that I have a hard time touching my toes anymore.

In the midst of a flare up as we speak. Have had bronchitis for the past week and a half and all the coughing has me sore everyplace.

Getting old ain't for the meek, my friends.

Had an MRI a year ago....degenerative disk disease, 3 bulging disks in my lower back. Someday I'll look back on now and remember these as the good old days when I could still do stuff. :shakes head:

My brother just blew his knee out. He was carrying a ladder. Slipped on some ice, and twisted funny. He's 73. But looks like he's 60.

eZg 12-12-2018 03:59 PM

Had the back attack myself.

Last year ripped a bicep tendon!?! What the hell.....all these years I've been working out and my tendons aren't worth $hit.

I torn the tendon off the bone when I did mine year and a half ago. Got a nice scare on my right elbow. I'm about 75% back in strength.

Both of my knees have torn meniscus. Was getting syn-vis shots in my left knee.

Me thinks our friend Rusty needs to never leave home without the bailing wire and duct tape.....and not for his car either.
