HVAC Techs
For the hvac licensed techs, I have a few q’s:
1. Should either of the line on the outside condenser, suction or liquid, be sweaty? 2. Is it okay if neither of the lines above are sweaty? Temp outside is a approx 78. 3. The supply vent air temp is reading 61 after running for about 25 min. This a good sign? Room temp was about 80. Reason I ask is bc the coils slightly froze up (slightly the bottom coil part) the night before. |
Late to the party, but
1. Should either of the line on the outside condenser, suction or liquid, be sweaty? A.The liquid line will never be sweaty, it will always be hot when the system is running. Suction line will get sweatly / frosty. 2. Is it okay if neither of the lines above are sweaty? Temp outside is a approx 78. A. Fine, but suction should be coold/ cool to the touch & insulated 3. The supply vent air temp is reading 61 after running for about 25 min. This a good sign? Room temp was about 80. A.Looks like it's kicking Reason I ask is bc the coils slightly froze up (slightly the bottom coil part) the night before. What was the set point? A.Chances are you burried the stat & it froze a little trying to reach the set point. All-in-all system seems GTG. |
I agree with Felix 808 - seems normal. If you experience more freeze ups, you may be low on "freon."

If coil froze thats a problem , most likely you are low on r/22. Or 410a gas . Also can be air flow problem but all you can check is you’re air filter. Or if you have more than one thermostat a zone damper may be broke. The only way to see is put gauges on unit and check the temps and pressures to see what the problem . If air flow problem most times will freeze whole coil hope this helps

Thanks for the responses. Turns out it was low on Freon.

AC systems don't consume freon during operation. If it was low, there is a leak somewhere. You may want to have the leak tracked down and fixed so you're not losing freon all the time.
