It basically uses the houses power wires as an ethernet cord. They plug into the outlet and you can run your patch cable from there to your device. The other one plugs in a wall outlet near your gateway.
This should give you the basic idea.

That's pretty neat. Wouldn't there be interference from the actual power going through the lines, or can it filter that out somehow.

Idk, they didn't ask and I'm pretty sure the chef only cooks it one way. Plus I don't speak Japanese. I just pointed to the 2nd most expensive meal on the menu.
