So, My Company Just Layed Off 50 People...

Came into work this morning to find out that two people in my department were "let-go". One of whom I was good friends with. I later found out that (13) people total in my branch were let go today, and a total of (50) people company wide. :shakes head:

The CEO put out a letter stating they implamented an "RIF" (Reduction in Force).

Let's just say it's good to be at work today!

I am a Quotations Project Specialist for an electrical and datacom company. My location is the companies largest. We have over 100 people @ our location. There was (8) people in my department, now we have (6). Which means I am managing 78 projects right now... ranging from $2,000 to $3.4 Million.

I feel a little safe, because I am apart of my companies "Green Team". I am setting us up with manufacturers to sell Solar and Wind power systems for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Since everything is going Green... I kinda feel I need to be here. Nothing is gauranteed though!!

All of my coworkers who started with me were called to a "meeting" on monday where they were not so subtly told to either make their numbers or be fired at the end of the month. I was the only one of my group not to get called in..but boy is the pressure mounting...I'm feeling the same thing you are haha.

I work for the City, and we are cutting like, 1000-1500 positions. What's funny (funny "queer," not funny "haha") is that I left my old company to work for the City because I thought there would be a lot more job security with a government job, lol.

All I have to do is walk over to the Arena as I am right across the street!!!

We are waiting to hear who will go with my bank. 35,000 is a lot of bodies worldwide...

I'm not that close to the arena working at the airport, but at least I only have to hop on the light rail to get there.

That's not far at all...

DIGItonium 01-12-2009 08:15 PM

Stinks man... it's January and my company is getting ready for the 2nd wave: 2000 being let go. I wouldn't be surprised if there's another wave by the middle of this year.

Last week my supervisor said my group would be dodging this bullet. Today, I've placed a small deposit. Still trying to sell my car after a few days putting up my ad...
