I have a dilemma.... Not good.

So I had neck surgery due to 2 herniated disks in my neck. C3/C4 and C6/C7. The Dr. only recommended fixing C3/C4. The reason was if he fixed both he would also have to remove and fuse 2 good disk, C4/C5 and C5/C6. This would leave only one disk C7/C8 for mobility. If I lost that disk and had to have it fused I would be reported to the DMV and may loose my license because I would have very little range of motion. That would mean, no job. I have to drive for work sometimes.

The dilemma,
C6/C7 has been give me issues for the last 3 weeks. When it starts to hurt I
will get a migraine headache. I take my medicine for the migraine and I can't keep it down. I am unable to get comfortable while laying in bed in a cold dark room. The nausea continues until I have nothing left in the stomach and the dry heaves take over. I am in a flipping mess. I may need to have another surgery. This sucks. I have a Dr. appointment next week. I can't live like this that is for sure. Just had to get it off my chest. I gotta have something to look forward too or I am not going to be here much longer. Can't take it anymore.

Sorry to hear about this. Hang in there.

They can't replace with artificial one's? I know the pain has to be rough/gotta keep food & liquids in yourself.
Maybe get another opinion,,,I recently had a basic migraine & all i could think about is getting rid of that headache.
Hopefully you will get some relief soon;i'll be headed to south Ga. tomorrow (Moultrie) to work on a Peterbilt. won't be driving the Z, But i'll stop by & say Hey if you pm me an address.
Hang Tough!

I hope the doctors can eventually help you. Be sure to get a second opinion too. Did you have a previous accident which caused the neck issues? If it's the medication that's causing the nausea they should be able to try something else?

What are you taking for the migraines? I used to get them really bad, and for very similar reasons to yours. Surgery helped immensely, but before that I had an Imitrix auto-injector that I could inject in my shoulder. It worked well if I caught it in time, basically as the migraine was coming on. If it was already there though it didn't do much.

Gravel for the nausea? I realize these are just stop-gap ideas until you can have the problem addressed, but got to start somewhere.

I feel your pain brother. Literally.

Prevention is the best medicine. If you can figure out what is triggering the migraines (my guess is neck muscle cramps/spasms, but I'm not a doctor) and avoid that, things will be a lot better. Once I figured out what triggered my migraines, I was able to (usually) avoid that activity and the number/severity has dropped to almost zero. Muscle relaxers/antispasmodics may help, in your situation. Discuss with your doctor.

There are a lot of migraine meds available but, in my experience, not all will work for everyone and dosage can be tricky (eg, a little may do wonders while a bigger dose does nothing). You may have to do some trial and error before finding one that works well for you.

I assume there is a very good, but unstated, reason why the doc wants to fix C3/C4 rather than C6/C7 which seems to be the bigger issue for you right now?

As Kzonts suggested, I would get a second opinion--from someone totally unassociated with the first doc. Hopefully that will give you enough reliable information to make an informed decision of the best path to take under the circumstances.

A dilemma among good choices is far easier to resolve than one among only undesirable alternatives. It seems that you are faced with the latter. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Imitrix is what I take, 25mg tablet. That is what has worked for me in the past. Problem is I can't keep it down. Yes, the miagranes are being triggered by my neck. I know what foods trigger it for me and the first one I thought it was something I ate. Since the others, I am just about positive it is due to C6/C7. Yes, this is all happening due to my wreck and Nismo being totaled. I have a great Dr. Looks like I will be having another surgery. The only issue is if I loose one more disk in between C7/C8 I will be screwed. From my understanding it is a very good chance that will happen. I wish l would have kicked that guy in the nuts for hitting me.

I hope the jackass that hit you had insurance and you got some type of settlement?

C3/C4 was fixed June 20th. That was the one hurting me the most at the time. It hurt so bad it covered up whatever C6/C7 had to say.

I see--my bad. Poor reading comprehension. Damn, that's rough!

Best wishes and good luck getting help with it!

I feel your pain. I have a back problem (getting better knock on wood). I have seen people with neck issues and it's very annoying and painful. I hope you get better.

Talk with the Dr. Wednesday. I will be talking to my lawyer Monday. If the insurance money is not their, I won't get much of anything. I already have 60k of Dr. bills.

Spooler 08-02-2016 11:55 AM

I'm on the short end of the stick again. Only 125K of insurance available to collect. Lawyer fee's and Dr. bills are going to eat that up.

Kzonts 08-02-2016 06:44 PM

I would think your lawyer can go after that person above and beyond their insurance coverage.
