I worked at a place where pretty much every Friday, someone got shitcanned with zero explanation, just a "As of today <person> is no longer with the company" email.

After a short time, people started leaving. They did an "anonymous survey" and were shocked to find that morale was suffering. They thought if they got rid of one person a week for 16 weeks, that it would have less impact on the company than a layoff.
