technology is always advancing, so who's to say you spend a grand on this radar unit and 6 months from now they have a new radar gun that this unit won't pick-up. what then, can you up grade it or is it junk?

a. You need to get a lawyer. I can look up yellow page if you want. Without a lawyer (with your current situation), you're going to take a big chance. b. You need either a Passport Escort (my preference) or a Valentime 1 (alefcole's preference). Keep your budget less than $400. c. Need to slow the F' down. Regards :hello: AK |
My detector was $450 new on E-bay. And you simply move it from car to car like a GPS nav unit. The Valentine 1 is a good detector, but it looks like it came from the 1980s, and if you live in any sort of urban area you will get false alarms repeatedly since it does NOT have GPS like mine. I believe that they are about the same price.

thanks for alll the help. i had one awhile ago and i swear it doesn't always work bc it would go off at random times like by a grocery store or like best buy from their doors and its such a pain.. ALSO someone told me once that it doesn't always work with the police radar things like they can turn it off so your dectector can't go off. i'll be getting one ASAP. thanx again guysss! :)

I also recommend this radar detector. The GPS red light/speed cam is cool but I know from a resent trip this detector works very well. Detection over the hill and around curves was awesome. Saved me from at least 2 tickets. Trick is some one need to be n front of you to get the cop to shoot the radar that you will detect. So if you are the only car you will detect the radar being shot at you. Still better that nothing.
[edit] I forgot to mention it has a feature where you can tell it when it was set off by doors/etc. making it significantly less annoying that other radar detectors. Quote:

You think those are bad.
ALWAYS remember someone else has it worse than you. I'd rather be in your position than being in mine, that's for sure. |

Ethan, I checked Buy.com and they had it(9500ix) for $434. Anywhere cheaper? |
I passed a state trooper while going 100 mph this morning. He didn't budge, but still had me shaking.
I'll be getting the 9500ix most likely. |

no one thing you gotta remember is that the device is a radar "detector", it detects radar. A lot of people talk and refer to it as a "radar", and it's not...it detects emitting radars...therefore, if the cop doesn't have his radar on, then your detector detect it... |

Ordered it and it'll delivered by Wednesday! $422 with shipping. Not as pretty as the Escort/Bel, but V1's reputation speaks for itself. |

How's the cell-phone false alarms? That's possibly the worst aspect of the cheaper unit's I've seen. |
Haven't really noticed too many false alarms, they happen from time to time but no where near what a whistler or other radio shack type one would have.

V1 was delivered today, and I have to say it's about half as big as I thought it would be! It's really compact, IMO.
I also have the remote audio controller and my installers are custom mounting it I to one of the three empty center console buttons. Pics will be up Tuesday! |
