My day started out nice with a free breakfast thanks to the Navy league. I couldn't eat the cake as it was wayyyyyyyy to filling. ( cinnabun and frosting)

kenchan 11-13-2015 09:37 AM

cinnabon :yum:

kenchan 11-13-2015 09:38 AM

cinnabon + cinnabon = taffyapple :ugh2:

Masterbeatty 11-13-2015 09:45 AM

Taffyapple = poor health

poor health leads to not fitting into my Z!

Leingod 11-13-2015 09:54 AM

It's evidently magic to some coworkers that I can plug a USB drive and headphones into my keyboard....

Masterbeatty 11-13-2015 10:17 AM

I have a keyboard I can put my cac into.

Changed out the PS fluid in the DD. It was dark brown. Honda also uses their own fluid blend which is clear (and supposedly thicker viscosity) vs ATF like most manufacturers.

Another reason for me to ever own another Honda.

I've not changed the PS fluids in my hondas so dont know for certain, but surprised to hear they use clear fluid.

i thought all my hondas had some color to the fluid since new.

kenchan 11-13-2015 10:59 AM

how many have you changed the PS fluids in your Z? :icon17:

ive done one cycle last year, will do another cycle next year when i do the coolant for the first time on the Z.

JARblue 11-13-2015 11:05 AM

I replaced my power steering fluid with Redline D6 ATF around 20K miles. Probably due for another; it's been 50K miles since.

I just did this on Ms. Pint's 350Z the other weekend. It was over 100K miles, but I think the PS had been done before because the fluid didn't look bad. I did the ranger method 4 times and in between each one, I did the FSM procedure of three full lock turns in each direction with a five second hold (don't ever hold more than 10 sec at full lock!).

Idk what half of that even meant hahaha. All fluids other than oil I will be taking to a shop come 30k miles.

 sounds good. i dont think nissan even lists the PS fluid as a maintenance item on the G35C/350Z's, but I did my G's at year 10 and it was still ruby red. :D

the clutch fluid however was another story... :ugh: decided to ranger it every 2-3yrs after dat.

Me too. I ordered a bunch to flush it out and when I poured the first bottle I was shocked to see it was yellow/clear. Normal PS fluid is dark so I didn't think mine was bad. Whoops!

But most cars today have electric PS, so no fluid anyways.

kenchan 11-13-2015 11:55 AM

b15- yah, i'd be pretty surprised too.

u know, they should make electronic clutches to rid csc problems..
oh wait, they already do, but took the clutch pedal with it.

New monitor installed. Looks mediocre (also not yet calibrated). But Fry's had a 27" LG IPS panel for $179, and I decided not to pass it up. It will be my secondary monitor. I ordered a 27" 2K AH-IPS monitor for my primary :D

Leingod 11-13-2015 12:36 PM

Black box arrived. Really want to get a hardwire kit now so I don't have to look and dangling cords from my windshield. No idea how to run the wire or install then to a fusebox though. Never worked with electrical.

Davey 11-13-2015 12:36 PM

Working from home... Still too busy to :postwhore:

Apparently, I got the right hard wire kit. I got the micro-usb hard wire kit from SpyTec.

I would do a DIY for you, but I'm not sure when I'm going to get to it. Also, I would normally run just a dash cam down the passenger A-pillar. But since I'll be installing a homelink mirror at the same time, I'll run all the wires together to the driver side.

cool. if you have power going to your self-dimming mirror u can probably feed power off of that. or, just hook it up to one of the switched 12v in your fuse box using an add-a-circuit, probably.

This is for the Civic since the Z is in storage. No self dimming mirror in the 24K Si. I've never added a fuse to a box before. Only pulled them haha

yah, it's real easy to do. just get one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956PT-Bl...=add+a+circuit

then if your camera came with a microUSB module it should have one + wire which hooks up to the above, and the - you just hook up to any chassis ground... the metal brackets behind the dash works, so any of the screws you can undo, just loosen it and wrap the wire around and tighten, or be fancy and use one of these ring terminals..

Amazon.com: ring terminal

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:10 PM

actually u'd want to work your way top to bottom so mount ur camera, then snake the cables above the ceiling liner, down the a-pillar (just use a squeegee or plastic blade or even your spatula..lol) and feed it down near the fuse box area. you'll need to pull up the door weather strip, probably which is no big deal. just push it back on once you got the wiring in the fuse box area.

Running the cable sounds easy enough. It came with a USB to miniUSB cable and a MiniUSb to cigarette outlet cable. How would the USB/miniUSb cable connect to that fuse holder?

u will need to get a 12v to USB (5v) module but since your car is a lease, how about you get a female cigarette lighter socket and wired it to the fuse box? Then you can just use the cigarette outlet module to miniUSB cable to power your camera. how long is that cable btw?

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:21 PM

here is the 12v to USB cable if u want to try this route.

I wonder if I could bring it to a shop and ask if they'd show me what to do if I pay them. I really am hesitant working on electrical stuff within a car. Not my forte.

kenchan 11-13-2015 01:42 PM

yah, any stereo install shop should be able to install it within 30min.

Leingod 11-13-2015 01:44 PM

i'd pay the $50 or whatever for the install if they'd also teach me. Lease is up next year so I'd be ripping it out eventually. Would be nice to know for future cars instead of always paying.
