imho, when boeing was late on delivering the dreamliners by 2-3yrs, i think the governments made agreements to allow the yen to be stronger so that ana and jal could alleviate some of the losses caused by the delays by helping them pay for the aircrafts.

also when the 2011 earthquake hit, japan's economy tanked momentarily due to rebuild, and it needed more spending power.

after all that subsided, now back to the normal 123-125 to the dollar.

just my hunch btw. :D no scientific(?) fact.
