My friend just got DUI charge with some extra stuff

Hello everyone,
My friend is in deep trouble and need some advises but I can't since I never had such an experience... So maybe if anyone has some of experience sharing would be great! So, my friend was driving under influence with his 'rental car' and crashed onto a parked car. The owner of the parked car wanted to let my friend go since he didn't want my friend to get in troubles (very kind guy) but someone walking down a street called a cop. My friend was taken to a police station for DUI and crashing other person's car. The problem is, first, his insurance was deactivated at the time present. Second, it was a rental car. (I have no idea how he even rented out a car with his nonactive insurance). Third, he was drunk driving. Fourth, his rental car got TOTALED(victim's car is not that bad. Just need some fix on the rear end). What are the worst consequences he can receive? I have no idea how his insurance will work since it was deactivated at the time being. I mean I understand it is now up to his lawyer and the court but how much money will he end up spending? Can he faces a jail time for such matters? Thank you.

Dui, totaled car, no insurance and leaving the scene of the accident? I hope he gets jail time. He's lucky he didn't kill someone.

He didn't leave the scene. The owner of the parked car wanted to let him go :) But someone called the cop :(

Good. He was driving drunk. Cops should have been called.

If he has a good lawyer he will be paying a nice high fine and some jail time.
The rental car insurance will cover a chunk of the car he destroyed, but they will still go after him for a good amount. The DUI plus accident usually is auto jail time even with a good lawyer (can be as low as a few days), but it could be 30 days to more if they want to throw the book at him.

With all the 'little' things you listed it adds up to a bunch of big items that a court will find hard to pass over. Also depends on his past record, is this a 1st time incident or has he had past troubles.

Regardless of sentence, he got off easy. No one was hurt and it's only property damage.

oh my............ auto jail times...oh my.......... that really sucks for him...don't even know what to say. I believe his records are pretty clean. Except maybe a few tickets? but this is his 1st DUI.

It depends on state/county, I know some have auto jail time as DUIs are becoming big problems for cities & they are cracking down. Now many times a 1st offense you can get by with a fine and/or community service but all comes down to the judge.

If he's smart it will be his last DUI, because he's not very good at it.

Tell him to start checking SR22 insurance rates and vehicle interlocks. His wallet is about to get raped.

Jail time is the least of his worries.

I'm still searching for the "extra stuff" promised in the title. Everything seems due to DUI and extremely poor judgment.

I used to have a few friends like that. Used to.
