Hello! New Z owner- From Camaro SS to the 370Z

Hello, everyone. I just traded in my 2011 Camaro SS for a Black 370Z. She's a 2009 edition, but I got her for (I think) a fair price of $25,000 with only 1100 miles on the odometer. She's an automatic, but I can always play with the shifters on the steering wheel if the mood strikes me.

The Camaro is a wonderful car, but I traded her for the Z for a few reasons:

1. The Z just feels more nimble and responsive. This may sound strange but the Camaro WANTS to move all that power in straight lines, whereas the Z seems to smile when she reaches those curved roads.

2. I'm seeing Camaros everywhere now. Kudos to GM for making a car everyone loves, but by me they are as common as MItsubishi Eclispses.

3. The Camaro interior is a generation away from the Z. I absolutely hated the seats in the Camaro after driving for more than 30 minutes. The Z also feels more refined and sophisticated overall.

After the first 1200 miles I'm really happy with my choice! I'm stuck with only a couple concerns:

-No bumper-to- bumper warranty, so I'm hoping she is reliable.
-Black. I PROMISED myself never to own a black car, but I couldn't resist. The Z is too damned sexy in black, with lightly tinted windows. Lol. Now I get all the pain and suffering of upkeep.
-ugh. This year I'll be forced to drive her through an Illinois winter. Not looking forward to that, but I did give her a massive winter waxing last weekend.

Best wishes to all of you!

Welcome! Glad to hear you made the switch. I also have a black Z couldn't resist how good the cars looks black. Hard to keep clean though. Enjoy!

Congrats and Welcome!

thanks! I forgot to mention one other....er...."benefit" of owning the Z. A neighbor several doors down owns a Black Dodge Challenger R/T. Every since I purchased the Z he keeps revving his engine as he passes my house.

He has asked me to race twice already, but I always turn down such things. Even in my SS. When I asked him why he suddenly has the urge to race me, as he never showed that desire when I owned the Camaro he said "Because you went from a muscle car to a sh!tty rice burner. I know my R/T can't take out an SS, but it will mop the floor with your Japanese junker."

Sigh.
And I actually LIKE his Challenger!

I love that your neighbor is giving you crap when he owns a land yacht on wheels. I wouldn't be shocked if next year's Challenger comes with dualies to handle its insane weight.

welcome :hello:. check out the link in my signature for the Chicago area 370z club. Where in Illinois are you?

He's a nice guy, but he is all about muscle cars. I have no problem with that. I will say that I'm sorry to see that the Japanese have moved away from true mid-priced high performance cars. There used to be the Toyota Supra, 300ZX, Mitsubishi 3000GT, etc. Now it seems that only Nissan carries the banner against the Big 3 muscle cars.

In regards to his R/T, after a little research it looks like the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are in many instances below the 370Z. I didn't even bother to look at what happens when you place a few curves in the road.

And pictures don't do justice to how gigantic the Challenger truly is. If I parked next to him I think my car would be in the shade all day long. :)

good choice on color

sure with a few mods he wouldn't beat you :)

Mr&Mrs 11-09-2012 05:32 PM

Its sad that all car people cant just get along. Egos, and little peckers always get in the way.

Tazicon 11-09-2012 05:55 PM

I love muscle cars myself, but the Z is such a fun car to drive. The best thing to do would be to own a muscle car and a Z so you can have the best of both worlds.

FYI I have seen stock Z's take stock R/T's on the strip. The SRT8 is a different story though.

how do I say this? Um REAL racing has turns? Take him on some canyon roads and see who is leaving who behind. The Z is a purpose-built sports car. Running in straight lines isn't racing.... :shakes head:

HA! Far From a Rice Burner! It's called a SPORTS CAR:tiphat:

And he absolutely will not MOP any part of your Z unless he is modded:wtf2:

red6spd 11-11-2012 01:57 PM

Congrats on the Z. Oh and your Z would bend that challenger over a gurad rail and just have its way with it while it screamed in pain... Just saying.

AreJay 11-11-2012 05:14 PM

XTZZZZ 11-25-2012 09:13 PM

Dependability is unsurpassed in my eyes. I had a senra with 360k miles on it traded
It for a 240and got 250k miles on it tell I traded it in on my 09 z
So I for one belive nissan builds a great car so Allllllll the heaters out there

Ehh... I really like the new challengers/chargers too, but actually you have the advantage.

Take it to the track and loser buys the winner a round of beer.

Zenmaster 11-29-2012 03:18 PM

I was actually thinking of getting a new ss and selling my Z, but now I'm having second thoughts!

SS_Firehawk 11-29-2012 04:42 PM

Only SS I would remotely think about moving "up" to is a 1LE, but why when these cars already match it in every measured benchmark except acceleration...stock? We sacrifice 90hp but lose 600lbs. I'm fine with that considering I paid 33k and not 40k.

OP congrats on the find. Go ahead and pick up something to fix the inevitable rock chips that show like battle scars. Get a clear bra while she is mint! I have a rock chip at the corner of my rear window.... Don't ask me how. I stay away from cars, trucks, anything driving near me, it's truly inevitable.

welcome aboard, just find a place to wash it lot in the winter
