Prospective owner with reliability ?'s

Hey Guys/Gals.

I'm new to Z's and Nissans in general, but not to motorsports or FR vehicles.

I have come from a turbo S2000, to my current E46 M3 and now wish to explore the realm of the Nissan Z, but have a few questions/concerns regarding the reliability issues of the transmission and oil temp.

My S2k was rock solid...even with 405WHP and 280TQ. No issues AT ALL. It just had no guts out of boost which is something I don't want to get back into.

My E46 M3's VANOS unit is somewhat of a ticking timebomb along with plenty of other S54 inherant issue that I will not get into...., but my point is that I don't want to get out of a car that provides expensive repair bills and into another one.

I understand from what I've read that everyone has gotten their Z transmissions replaced once..maybe even twice under Nissan's factory warranty program. This is nice of Nissan to do without asking questions, as they seem to fully be aware of the issues. What is mroe disconcerting for me is that when the warranty on the vehicle expires, you are stuck with the repair bills. I amassuming this issue will not be fixed by Nissan since they seem happy to just fork over a new transmission. This is probably my biggest issue with this purchase as a trans. swap isn't something I can do in my apartment complex like I could on my S2000. Should I let this one issue deter me from buying?

My other issue is the oil cooling problem... I have read contradicting statements saying "it only happens during hot days and track like use" to, "I don't want to have to keep looking at my oil temp eevrytime I pass a car".

I've read about window motors failing, and also the steering lock failure as well, but those are more cumbersome than anything and I can live with that...every car has some sort of issue from time to time.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the styling of the new 370Z, I am in love with the monterey blue paint, and am intrigued by the interior styling.

Oh won't the 370Z enthusiats quash my worries and just tell me to hop in and drive?!

Hope my short story didn't bore anyone to death. Looking forward to the replies and hopefully getting to know some of you over the enxt few months as I mull this purchase over.
