Going to buy Z in September. Need help.
 

Hello, guys.
Since, I know nothing about Z's could you please answer a couple of questions?

First of, the reason why I'm going to get Z in September is because I will be out of country during the summer.

Question 1.
Will it be worth buying 2010 370z with (let's say) 15k~ miles on it? There were some arguments with my cousin that cars like Z will require a lot of maintenance after 3-4 years of usage. Is it true? I don't really want to spend $33k~ and then drive around trying to fix it, if you know what I mean. (I never driven a used car before though)

Question 2.
I want to get vertical doors on it installed. Will it break the warranty? Where will I be able to have it installed in LA?

Question 3.
If the car won't come with built-in navigation package, is there anyway to get it?

P.S. What will the annual cost be to maintain it? (Oil change, brake paddles and all that kind of stuff?)

1. z's are super reliable, as long as you maintain it and don't beat the crap out of it (common sense kinda stuff)
2. i dont think these belong on anything but a lambo or something of the sort. do not belong on the z.
3. ton of aftermarket touch screen options. would be cheaper and a much better option to do this instead of going through the hassle of installing the oem nav.

F.Y.I. the search button is your friend

1. The majority of Z's are pretty reliable, so as long as you find one that has been well taken care of, you shouldn't find any major issues. Maintenance stuff like brake's and tires are a bit more than other "normal" cars, but it comes with the territory. Be prepared for $90 oil changes unless you plan on doing it yourself. 15k miles isn't really all that much, neither is 30k miles. The Z shouldn't need any major maintance work until 80k-100k miles.

2. It will only void warranty for the doors and anything associated, but I say HELZ NO to lambo doors! Just don't :shakes head: Please don't!

3. Installing the OEM nav is going to cost a lot of $$$. You can go with an aftermarket nav, but the screen isn't going to be in the cubby. Spend the extra for the OEM nav if you really want it, otherwise you might regret it later.

Oil change: ~$60 for DIY-$90 @ the dealer (Nissan Ester)

Brake pads:~$120 about every 35k miles, give or take + install

Tires:~$1,000 for a set depending on the brand. Will last about 15-20k miles.

Also, I think if 2013 Z will be released before september then the price for 2010-2011 Zs might go down, so it's pretty much worth it to wait a little.

Regarding the oem navigation system, do you know how much precisely it would cost me? When you "Build your z" on nissanusa.com the nav package is $2k~.

if you're buying used anyway why not just find one with OEM nav already installed?

the OEM nav really makes the interior just look much better. the stock interior without nav just looks cheaper IMO

I live in LA and I didn't find any good deals with nav pack already installed. (Want to get automatic transmission though).
I just want to know how much it will cost me to install oem nav, in case if I won't find it by september.

I think the head unit for the nav alone is over $4k if you buy it later, plus all the pieces you need to replace (AC controls, brackets, etc) & labor. Def not worth the cost.

Forget installing oem Nav - it hooks up to a lot and is more complicated - you'd need a different stereo as well, for example.

Considering some of the issues with oil consumption and temperature, a year old car has proven itself and might provide some peace of mind, though I think a late model 2010 should be fine too.

I got an extended warranty thrown in by the dealer since the car is so complex.

Agree you should find the Z with nav options if you want it, aftermarket is nice, but doesn't integrate as well... you won't like it as much

you should be able to find one in SOcal or at worst Nocal or AZ/NV. just keep your eyes open

:iagree: I have the OEM NAV & I like it.. Sure u can get a base Z without it & install another brand, but u will go thru more trouble searching & installing then it may be worth... & then u need to consider if u tap directly into the existing power leads u may void your electrical warretee (if u have any)

Yea, I think I will be looking for touring/sport/nav/10-11.

To be frank. It sounds like you just want a car with looks that nothing else on the market has within that price range. Coming from a gs350, you dont want anything that's going to give you a hassle either. Not a Z enthusiest.

Lambo doors are well... people may think they look 'baller.' but people like me are like "wow, you spent almost a grand to make your doors go verticle... how rice."

Best thing for you would be to buy a certified nissan 370z with a warranty on it, so you know it will be taken care of if you plan to keep your Z.
OR
Lease a 370z, that way you can turn it in after 2 years and move on to something else.

Honestly I love the Z so much that I had to have it manual trans with touring trim but with no sport package cause I didnt want the syncro-rev. Very hard to find but I found it finally and bought it.

I think you might be better off leasing some 370Z roadster with touring nav trim so you dont have to upgrade anything.
