Dreaming of a Z

Owned a few Nissans in my life. Decided the Z (370) is next for me, Doing some research before purchasing, maybe even buying a block to build before I Purchase a Z.

I currently own two Sentra SER's, a Red 03 ( for the daughter) mostly stock, and a Yellow 04 High Compression SEP SpecV (still in build process)

The Yellow Spec, did 282HP on 7lbs of boost with 11.5 compression, but kept blowing head gaskets (Turbo was too close to the block)

I also had a 1991 Infiniti M30, converted to Manual, and dropped on some Oz Opera II's.

I work for a race shop in Phoenix,Az with Automatic Transmissions and am one of two import guys, but if you want to swap your trans, and want to go with a Turbo 400, Powerglide, etc.. built to Drag, we can take care of your transmission needs. I hear there are a few companies that make bell housings,

=)

Welcome to the 370Z forums. Nice Sentra’s you have they can be make fast as well. Consider purchasing a Nissan 370Z they are quite reliable and dependable vehicles to own if you are looking to get away from the blown head gasket issues. You are thinking about a built block what are your goals? What are you trying to build on the Z platform?

Thanks for the welcome fellas!

I'm wanting a Nismo, 2013+ for the stitch weld, but I honestly love the 2009 front bumper. I'm also partial to the 40th anni, such a clean set up. and NEEEEDs to be manual. I test drove a few autos (available on the lot) and they almost changed my mind on the Z altogether. Which is funny considering I work for an automatic only transmission shop.

It will take daily duty for awhile, the SpecV has a stupid lope profile.

If I am able to get a block to build, I want to set it up for low compression for twin turbo set up. I know the spec's motor was my own fault for not holding headgaskets (boost plus high comp) but I wanted to try something different. Lesson learned.

Eventually, long term I would like to do a wild highway run car that can handle HPDE duty. I eskate to work, or ride the bicycle in, and carpool with the brother, so theres no worry about down time if the motor goes, or during install. But knowing these can get beat on by owners, I tend to like to have a motor to drop in upon receiving, or for when going full boost.
