Anyone go from an evo IX to a 370z?

Hi, I'm brand new here and I'm strongly considering a new 370 but I want to know what I'm going to miss (if anything) I know it will be a step down speed-wise but thats ok. Hows the steering ratio compare? As far as mods go I know the high flow cats and a tune are good for some solid gains. Any word on cams yet? I'd like to keep it N/A. I feel like I'm out growing the evo even though I love the sleeper aspect (RS model). Power wise, I'm trapping 108 with I/E, injectors and a tune. Thanks for any insight!

nope...

went from an 04 mustang mach1 to the 370z...

step down is doubtful...

steering is way better than any sports car ive driven...

i suggest you go test drive one now...

I hope it isn't a step down but Im making 300 to the wheels on a mustang dyno and 285 awtq as well at 24 psi. It currently weighs ~3150. Like I said, I'm okay with a little less speed if its really a drivers car. I do need to go test drive but I have no free time for a while. The reason I mention steering is because the evo has incredibly quick steering with its steering ratio.

ive never driven an evo...

but coming from a mustang to the z is like night and day in the handling area...

i feel like a lost a little torque but i gained in handling and performance...

it was a good tradeoff in my mind...

Its a bit of a difference... The 370 is going to feel a lot slower then it really is just because you dont feel the sudden burst of tq when the turbo kicks in. Also you will miss the AWD 3rd you will be the millions of parts you have to choose from to upgrade it. 4 you will miss the backseat.
The good.
1. It handles just as good as the Evo
2. you have a V6 to work with and turbo it will have lower boost lag with higher HP&TQ
3. Look a hell of a lot better.
4. RWD means less parts to break.. like center diffs ect ect.

Heres a pic of my Evo8.. was pushing about 350/350 with it

Had an EvoVIII with full bolt ons, cams and meth injection. Later moved into a IX and did full bolt ons again and FP Green turbo... that one was a monster!

The Evos definitely had a "tighter" steering feel and confidence was high because of AWD. They really are amazing cars... Turbo boost is something that is very unique and makes the cars feel very fast. It was great having a backseat and ample trunk space too...

With all the mods, the IX just started to feel a little unfriendly as a DD...

The 370Z is a much more aesthetically pleasing car, in my opinion. The steering is quite good and feels very solid for a RWD car. Power delivery is very linear so you don't get the kick in the pants feeling that the Evo provided but it's very capable.

It's very difficult to find a car that is as mod friendly as the Evo. To get anywhere near the HP possibilities of it with the 370 would cost a great deal. Having said that, the 370 has grown on me quite a bit and I guess I'm just getting older too. It would be nice to have a little more juice, but it can still be an extremely spirited drive nonetheless.

Do I miss my Evos? Yeah, I'd be lying if I said otherwise. Do I regret the 370z? Not at all! It's a beautful car that I look forward to driving every time I get in it.

Bottom line is that they are two very different platforms and are both great cars.

Welcome to the boards :tiphat:

My bro has an evo IX. One big thing difference I noticed was that the Evo IX had a horrible turning radius; something that can't be avoided due to the length/shape of the car I guess. With the 370z, you have tight, sharp turning radius due to being smaller.

You'll also have to get used to not having a big trunk and rear seats.

From various articles I've read by "experts" (relative term, I guess), the Evo beats both the 350 and the 370 on, say, a 0 to 60 race. But the overall quality feel and reliability go to the Zs.

Please not another Evo vs 370 thread

I think the tipping point is going to be the attention from cops. How many of you Cali guys have been hit with smog ref tickets in your 350/370? Being wingless helps me alot with the "street racer" profiling the chp loves since the evo is pretty much the poster car for their training on modified imports. I've been lucky so far but I'm tired of looking out for popo even during local driving. Somehow I'd think they would be more lenient towards the z regarding mods/profiling. Any insight here?

I dont own an EVO but a best buddy of mine has an evo 9 and I drive it sometimes for fun and I would say I love the 370Z. It's nice having a turbo set up but I'd take the Z any day.

I agree with the Suggestion on going for a Test drive, and as regards to the Police, if your not driving to attract attention you should be fine
Welcome to the Board! :tiphat:

welcome to the forum, a lot can be said about the 2 cars... but honestly you have to take it for a spin to feel the difference first hand.. both cars feel waaaaay different than each other, it's very hard to compare IMO.

goodluck on ur research.

I did. If you have a IX that is stage 1 like mine was, then sure you will step down in speed and brute throttle force but that CAN be MATCHED with tuning and mods. I'm proof.

The steering ratio is WAY better on the 370. C'mon dude.. you know all about having to make a 3 point turn when trying to make a U-turn in the Evo. Uggh...

I know what you mean about "outgrowing" the Evo. I LOVED my Evo but when you step up to a 370Z, you won't get mistaken for a high school student wherever you go. I'm 36 and my wife was so happy with my 370Z purchase whereas she never even wanted to ride in the "shopping cart" :icon14:

My evo put down 281 awhp and was lighter than the Z... however my Z is putting down 315 rwhp and trust me, it's about as fast now as my Evo was in the top end. And at the track, the 370 is a solid performer.

My current mods on the Z include:
intakes
cbe
hfc
sway bars
springs
ecu tune
oil cooler
ss brake lines
short throw shifter

I too am liking the NA aspect of a car with power. I will probably consider FI one day but for now I'm having a lot of fun with the Z.

KillerBee370 12-06-2009 10:55 AM

Sorry, I didn't answer your question about steering response. Yes, the Z has an excellent steering response. It's not quite as good as the IX but then, in the IX, you sneezed and switched 2 lanes on the freeway. It was nice but a bit of overkill if you ask me.

The big difference you will notice with the Z is how solid the steering/turning is over that of the Evo. The car feels 10X more solid and frankly because it is (without sacrificing weight). I mean let's face it... An Evo is just a Prancer with a turbo and bigger brakes. And like I said, I loved mine to death but it was time to grow up.

chuckd05 12-11-2009 10:19 PM

you tape up your evo but not the Z ?

I've come to realize that tape is for sissys. :rofl2:
However, given the amount of crap that happened to the front of my Z, it might just get a little tape next time out. ;)

I took a big step down in speed, but it was completely worth it. I love this car. Welcome aboard!

You won't regret it. Take it from me. And I had one sweet IX!

sorry to hijack this thread...

I am officially a 370z owner as of xmas eve... lol
traded my beloved 06 Evo 9 MR for a Monterrey Blue with Touring/Nav/Sports package 6 speed and couldnt be any happier...

Just my observation... The Evo is faster and handled better, or may be it feels that way. The 370z was a lot quieter and smoother, and very solid! Alot of creature comforts on the Z that wasnt on the evo...

I will make a thread for my pictures soon... anyone who is looking to move to a 370z is going to be happy, unless you just want boost and going fast... you can do that too in the Z.

That's AWESOME man! Please make a thread with new pictures (and old pictures of the EVO MR) . How's the SynchroRev match treating you? :driving: When I did my first downshift with SRM, my face went like this . Z is just a fun car with cool gadgets, beautiful exterior design and great handling.
